Why isn't m54 Turbo friendly?

As a lot of you know, their aren't a lot of turbo kits for Non M e46s. But why? They're are hondas, subarus, etc. running crazy levels of boost, but haven't heard of many BMWs. The enthusiast are there, but you don't hear about people running anything but TT. What is holding the M54 back?

Finding Somone to tune it at all, other car makes you can tune it yourself with a laptop and maps found online

My guys at Buckhead Import Performance (very experienced on FI for many car makes) tell me that the non-M ECU is 100 times more complicated than the M ECU as it appears to them to have EVERY single routine and sub routine that the factory (or contractors) have ever dreamt up. Thus they make one change and the ripple effect thru-out the software is mindbending.
I am no expert but this is what they told me. Maybe some expert can post here a better explanation. BTW, it has been two+ years since my FI installation and they are still fine tuning mine on the dyno.

The engine is turbo friendly, it gets complicated when you have MS45 DME. That is all.
