Cisco Router/WAP Recommendations

My router is bordering on 6 years old at this point and it's time for a new one. My friend can get me 40% off any cisco product so I'm getting some flavor of cisco. Right now I have a linksys WRT-54G running DD-WRT and I've been having problems with the DHCP when downloading torrents. I need something that can handle that sort of traffic and not screw up, and I would also like to be able to load custom firmware, or at least have that option if I want it. Keep in mind I don't need a crazy broadcast radius or anything above and beyond normal use.

Cisco E4200 is what I've been using. Before that, I was using the E3000. Both handled tons of traffic and connections with no problems.

Perfect. I know you have more experience in that world than most people on here. Do you know if it's capable of running a VPN out of the box? That's something else I've been wanting to tinker with but I can't load the VPN version of DD-WRT on my router now.

Considering your discount I would go with the E4200. You can load DD-WRT on it as well.

edit: I have an E2000 I believe and it's been flawless. My "friend" says he has no problem downloading torrents.

Negative, it doesn't have a built in VPN server. Here is the wiki for the E4200.

Just go look at Amazon reviews for the reliability of the various routers you are thinking about buying before you make your mind up.

I'd go with that crazy Asus that has beaten almost every router on the market recently. I don't remember what it's called.

Also keep in mind that Cisco just ended the Linksys experiment. They sold the consumer grade line to Belkin.
