Xi horrible mpg and some VCG questions

First off thanks for the help I know some of my questions tend to be general but I like the xi crowd. I've been reading around about bad mpg and winter mpg. Currently I'm getting around the neighborhood of 16mpg which is pretty bad (mainly intown). I have been getting some codes for cyl #2 and #5, misfires after examining each plug boot I found some small amounts of oil in the those wells. So my valve cover gasket must be the issue although I just replaced it about a year ago and torqued it down to spec. I'm guessing I didn't clean the valve cover enough? Also have been getting leaks around the vanos, I must have not but down enough of the gasket marker stuff around those half moons before laying the gasket on?? Anyways would you guys suspect any connection between these codes and my terrible mpg? Btw I should mention it has been very cold lately. Singal digit night temps with average 10 degree mornings. Thanks for the input.

Yes, sounds like your VCG is leaking.

Inspect the intake boots, and throw pre-cat o2 sensors at it if it has 100k+ miles.

Yea the VCG is leaking. It has new intake boots, my other area of concern is a vacuum leak at the disa o ring. Idk if this would cause bad mpg.

Thanks ill look at o2 sensors.

Last mpg calculation was 14mpg. Given that it was city driving in cold weather, It's still too low. Will be doing pre-cat O2 sensor. And will post difference in mpg for anyone interested.
