That's not a legitimate excuse. I post from my phone at least 50% of the time, and you'd never know the difference. You're just being lazy bro.

Whats the rule for peds in crosswalks, specifically when making a right or left turn, does the car need to wait for the ped to completely cross the street, or only needs to wait til ped has crossed the side of the street the car will be turning into? Does a median matter?
This is prly easily googled, but figure CA cops might know w/o looking.

When I read this section, I interpret it to mean that you must stop and let the pedestrian cross, regardless of where they are within the marked/unmarked crosswalk. However, 21950(c) says, "The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of the vehicle or take any other action relating to the operation of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian." To me this reads that as long as the pedestrian is safe, i.e. he just entered a major intersection and he's 8 lanes away, you're probably fine. Just remember, you'll never get a ticket for stopping and letting the pedestrian cross.

A median doesn't really matter, unless you could testify that the pedestrians' actions led you to believe they weren't going to cross.

Excellent stuff, thanks much.
The situation I have in mind is when I am going to turn and have stopped to allow the ped to cross, do I need to wait until the ped reaches a certain spot or crosses completely before I can enter the crosswalk. Based on what you've posted, it sounds like as long as I leave the ped plenty of room (subject to some LEO interpretation) and don't shave their knees with the bumper, it's fine to go even if they're still in the crosswalk on the other side of the street.

Much appreciated. Haven't decided if I'm going to try and fight due to being exempted LEO status.

Keep in mind, that the exemption is only in the course and scope of your duties while operating an emergency vehicle. So when I'm in my black and white, if I call my wife on a handheld device I'm still in violation despite the fact I am an on duty Deputy Sheriff. If you are a LEO, why would someone have cited you? Not making sense.

I got a speeding ticket today for going 65 in a 55 zone. It was a back road (no houses, businesses, etc...) if that's worth anything. CHP pulled me over, told me what he clocked me at, asked for my drivers license, reg, and insurance, wrote me up and was on his way. I don't think he was in the mood to talk - whatever. He said that the ticket is for got 55+ (vs the actual speed). Is that better?
I'm thinking about going to court and ask for a reduction. I think that's reasonable. Thoughts?

People often plead guilty and ask for a reduction of the fine and/or traffic school before the officer begins his testimony. Most judges respond well and usually grant the request, depending on the nature of the violation and the driver's history.

I know it varies from person to person, but how much do you think the judge will reduce the fine?

It depends on the judge.

From my experience there is a minium to the fines and they can wave a few some not, the judges have always granted the lowest fine possible.

I'm hoping to get 50% of the fine reduced. I've never been in this situation, but given my record and this particular violation, I don't think it's unreasonable. We'll see.
