12V under steering wheel?

Looking to hardwire a Garmin to be mounted left of the cluster.
I've read that the ignition wire (green) has too much juice?

Anyone know off hand where to tap in?
I know brown is ground....

If no specific advice...I assume I can just go under there w/ a multimeter and find a hot wire w/ the key in position 1...no?

Is there anything I should NOT tap into?

Sorry for the ignorance...not an electrical guy.

I'm mounting the nav in the bottom Left of the windshield....thought under the steering wheel would be closer---plus easier to get to.

I tapped the 12v on the ODB port to power my traqmate. It's on the left side.

In most BMWs a white or purple/white stripe will be switched power. Somewhere under the steering wheel you should be able to locate a wire that fits and will provide what you need. Always test with a meter just to make sure of course.

Thank you for that! I've been looking in my trunk for 12V on-with-ignition, but if I can't find it there I'll look behind the dash

No problem. Always test with a meter to make sure 100% but in most cases that will be true. I think almost every Valentine1/Escort radar is hard wired to the purple/white stripe at the sunroof panel
