Power steering problems
So I have a 02 325xi with no signs of power steering problems until today. I was turning into my driveway and all of a sudden it started growling at me. A low pitch growl. I know its most likely something to do with the power steering. I checked the fluid, its not low and color looks fine. The belt and everything seems tight and looks like its in good condition. I had a buddy turn the steering wheel back and forth while I looked at everything under the hood. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary (except the noise of course). Then all of a sudden it just stopped. I asked what he did and he said just turned the wheel really far to the right. I took it around the block and everything sounded back to normal. Awesome, but Im confused. Why would it just stop making the noise? The fact that it did make the growling noise, does that mean the pump is going? Or something else?
Thanks for any suggestions, Scott |

Sounds like the fluid is getting watery. I would change the fluid.

Change fluid and change reservoir as there is a filter in there that clogs and could be starving pump. Some have been able to clean the filter but for 28 bucks put in a new one.
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...reservoir.html I had same issue and none of that help it turned out to be a bad pump.
