Could also be the regulator, in which case $350 is cheap!

If you are happy DIY, grab a regulator from t.wak and fit it yourself. It takes about an hour max and there is a good DIY on this site.

I replaced 3 Regulators in my 98 318i E46, DIY. Grab a new one from the states about $170 AU Landed on Ebay.

Had the NS rear regulator replaced about 2 years ago and from memory total cost was about $360 so $350 these days does seem reasonable. Don't even think of taking it to a Dealer !

Jason@Tischer currently has them on sale for around $250aud shipped. I'd say $350 fitted is a good deal but it won't be a genuine part at that price.

Removing the door trim won't affect the airbag. The airbag is bolted to the door frame and the door trim is just a cover over it. IMO for peace of mind its always a good idea to disconnect your battery before you do this sort of work.

As Aaron said, trims come off without touching airbags. I never did a front door regulator, only did rears on my sedan and you do need to d/c the airbag. Follow tommiebois DIY and when it comes time to remove the airbag disconnect the battery and just be gentle when removing the airbag and and you wont have any problems.

Really pay attention to the DIY about pushing the window up before inserting the new regulator. If the window isn't pushed all the way up you will damage your tinting!

I would try lubricating it first, espeially the traks. You can use sillicon spray

Replaced my drivers window regulator for $450 this week. Got a local BMW specialist to do it, the dealership wanted around $550 so the choice was easy.
By the sound of the RH rear window it is on the blink as well, might consider DIY for that one but i'll try lubricating the tracks first.

lubing tracks, are you talking just on top of door or internal as in motor and wire? I do not want to open door, don't want to mess around with the air bag. WD40 is this lube ok and will it mess air bag if i spary internal to reach motor or shall i simply try top of door

It is probably your regulator. I replaced mine about 6 months ago. I am useless at mechanical stuff and it took about 1.5 hours following the excellent instructions on this video. I paid under $150 for a new regulator. Cant remember if I got it from Pelican Parts in the USA or clickable Automotive (a forum sponsor)

I just looked..Clickable do sell them..see link below. Clickable is the best place to buy for price service and speed of delivery and they are Australian. They sell only quality parts. If you have it done most places will charge between $350 and $450 to supply and fit a new regulator.
