AK vs. AR Video

They use the scientific method, it has to be true.

Larry Vickers did a comparo/myth episode on AKs vs ARs.

He was just as accurate with the AK as his DD AR and he was not even using a Saiga.

Now fill them up with baby powder and throw them in some mud and see what happens.

Not bad for an "outdated" system. Funny video!

The AR is like your a Honda Civic--highly customizable and full of fanboys.

The AK is like a 69 Camaro--crude, rugged, and badass.

It really is crazy.

My Saiga .308 was under $500. Now they are like $1500-$3000.

Stupid noob question comin your way....when people say how reliable AKs are (shoot with mud, sand, ham and cheese, etc) are they talking about real soviet AKs or any AK made by anyone including the polymer ones?

Ham sandwich part was the best. I'd be nervous as hell shooting that thing with the cover off it like he did. I'd be afraid of the spring launching out at me or something, even though I'm sure it wouldn't.

Also, fuck you San Diego made me laugh...completely random.

As for reliability of the full auto soviet am vs others, they should all basically be the same, assuming by polymer you don't mean the receiver and just mean the furniture (stock, etc.). The action itself is absurdly reliable. A $300 AK (though you came get them for that now) will be just as reliable as a $18000 registered full auto. The cheaper ones tend to have defects in sight canting and magwell fit, but other than that they're still good rifles.

And half of me wants a cheap ass ak. I spent $1600-1700 on my Arsenal AK and I baby the darn thing. I kinda want one I can just beat the hell out of.

AKs are silly reliable by design. Generally they are "loose" so that they avoid issues.

I chose to go with Saigas since they are imported new from the Russian Izhmash factory and not thrown together here with misc surplus parts.

It seems (I am no expert) that the Saigas are generally more accurate and better built that the average generic AK.

The draw back, is the Saigas use a slightly different magazine.

I love that.

An AK will not be stopped by a ham sandwich.

A stock unconverted saiga uses a propriatary mag. BUT you can convert it, instal a bullet guide and it will take standard ak mags. Pretty easy actually.

Yep. I never bothered. Top Quality USA made mags (Surefire SGM) are only $30-$40 without modifying anything.

Went to the range this past weekend. Friend brought his AK. Never shot one before. Wow what a difference from the AR. The difference is the same as going from an AR to my M&P15-22. The recoil is not insane, but you definitely feel it way more. I don't like the irons setup. Its short and seems inaccurate. Sure over time you can become good, but I laugh now when they show a Taliban in movies picking people off at 100's of yards. It was accurate at 100, but past 300 no way.

All AKs are not the same. Some are very accurate.
