Top Gear UK Season 19 Thread

Just watched the episode, it was awesome.

Good episode(2). Not great, but good.

Agreed. Good entertainment but not great.

I dont know about you guys, but me thinks the specials are more entertaining when the cars are "crap"...ie Bolivia or the Middle East, rather than supercars. Sure, we want to see the cars, but I'd rather see them fly around the track with the good stuff, and have fun challenges with the "unexpected" and unique beaters. What say yous?

I agree. I like the POS car challenges they do. Those are always the best.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again, I'd like to see an Episode where they do Top Gear UK vs Top Gear USA. Something along the same lines as Top Gear UK vs Germans or Top Gear UK vs Top Gear Australia.

This is why I'm most looking forward to the cheap touring car road trip coming up in a few weeks.

I wouldn't want them to completely drop the supercars, since they do make it entertaining, and I did indeed enjoy the 4 supercar specials (Ford GT to the bridge, Noble/Lambo/Mclaren to Italy, and the two greatest roads in the world) as well as the epic races, but as a whole, the cheap cars were really the most awesome. Would also be nice if they did some more crazy things like the Polar specials. Having said all that, a sh!tty top gear UK episode is still better (IMHO) than 99% of TV.

Good episode tonight

Episode 3:

The trio take part in an epic race from Wembley to the San Siro stadium in Milan. Hampered by a rule about price, Clarkson maximises his bang-for-buck with a £35,000, 662 horsepower Shelby Mustang GT500 whilst Hammond and May pin their hopes to the ever-improving, pan-European rail network. The winner will receive tickets to a top flight football match.

Jeremy also test drives the brand new Toyota GT86 coupe and car-loving singer-songwriter Amy MacDonald is the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car.

I thought it was pretty good. I loved drag racing in Vegas against a bunch of Scoobies and Evos, and losing badly, especially funny when Hammond lost to a Chrysler Crossfire in his Viper.

And the apologizing and excuses about what they said about Mexico in the final leg, it was pretty amusing all around.

While I do agree with what has been said about the cheap car challenges being more entertaining than the exotics, I actually wish they would have told us a little bit more about the cars. Clarkson spoke about how direct the Lexus was, but we heard next to nothing about the viper and even less about the Aston. It really has become an entertainment show this season, which is totally fine just as long as they keep it entertaining. I think Hammond could have done less fake bickering about the Viper and the section with the fighter planes could have been more to the point. The drag strip bit was by far my favorite part.

Top Gear has always been about entertainment. After all it IS a TV show, and usually they need to be entertaining in order to be as successful as Top Gear has become. If someone watches this show to be throughly informed about particular cars, they've got it wrong. Pick up a magazine instead!

Episode 2 was great BTW!! Loved the Aston!

In their season 19 preview montage, the most appealing part for me was Hammond in a cheap blue impreza wagon.

It wasnt nearly as good as buying the 1k dollar cars and driving it out of Florida.

Was hoping the west coast byways had more to offer. It didnt suck, but for a 'merica episode, it should have been better..x-ing fingers for part 2 of the trip.

They really didn't actually travel the coast, they went from Nevada to LA, then went back inland to the desert before they hit the border. Essentially the worst parts. No sea coast or twisty mountains.

And yeah- this episode was okay overall. Which means it was bad for Top Gear.
