Explains why GOP members of Congress have a lower approval rating than the President himself.

If only what they ARE and have been doing were so benign. Rather, they have become so reactionary, contrarian and simply adrift ideologically that there actions are proving very destructive.
Abusing the advise and consent role of the Senate to somehow try to revisit legislation battles they lost and still begrudge does not benefit either the U.S. people or even themselves as they end up being seen as petulant, reactive and merely obstructionist in furthering their particular ideologies through back-door shenanigans. The Consumer Bureau is a valid, legal and legislatively approved entity and should be allowed to function as legally prescribed, including approving competent, capable and qualified senior staff for its full and proper function. The GOP had a proper opportunity to object to the founding legislation, as is their right, role and prerogative, but a majority of American's, via their elected representation, decided that they would like the Consumer Bureau. If the GOP wishes to restrict, modify or do away with the CB, then do so, appropriately, through proper legislation. If the GOP senators do have a valid qualm regarding competence, capabilities or abilities of a director nominee to undertake his/her legal duties, then by all means reject the nominee. However, if the goal is to retroactively sabotage, for ideological reasons, the CB through simple obstructionism, then than is an inappropriate use and abuse or the advise and consent role. |
