Define Trolling

Well, last I checked there are no specific site rules on trolling, or what trolling is, yet from experience it's a reason for infraction points.

Could somebody actually define this?

Trolling: the action of being a troll and/or using troll-like comments.

Saying something dumb and or pointless in the effort to cause the forum thread to veer off topic or to provoke meaningless replies.

For example: if I said "Cow goes moo", that would just be off topic, but if I stated that trolling is where one trolls another by means of troll, I have told you nothing yet made you read a very very pointless post.

Trolling is basically being excessively unreasonable. Sometimes it is considered as "derping" because the question asked is just so STUPID it does not deserve an answer.

A troll is one who partakes in the above act

That makes sense.

Lately it just seems like if someone gets frustrated with anybody else, "OH YOU ARE TROLLING ME! YOU ARE TROLL!" It's like the new hip word to use online or something.

I believe it is more than just the "new hip" for online since I do hear it said around school. Basically people tend to overreact sometimes to a post. Said post in question may have implied som sarcasm but it may have been too heavy for the offended person. Hence the backlash of troll

This works for me -

In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /***712;tro***650;l/, /***712;tr***594;l/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may also refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29

Seems obvious that trolling wouldn't be allowed.

How do you determine somebody's intent?

Intent is not relevant, problematic post is problematic regardless of the intent. I (and the mod team) don't go handing out infractions for trolling unless there is a post/infraction history that warrants it.

If you're trying to work out a technicality that explains how you weren't trolling I can tell you now it won't work.

It's usually very obvious is someone is just trying to be a jerk as opposed to genuinely engage in thoughtful debate.

Trolling: hitting up the bars after last call to take the uglies home that everyone else passed up on.

No, I'm not searching for a technicality, I just want to find how close I can get to that fine line without passing it.

A common situation would be a joke like the second post of this thread. It's not thoughtful debate, and some people could argue it's trying to be a jerk, when really, it's neither, just a joke or conversation.

Give it up. They will slap a star on any twenty-something year old fool punk and call them a moderator and allow the moderator leg humpers to join in on the beatings. 10 years at this place and it is all down hill from there. Join bimmerfest.com/ or M3forms.net!

OMFG Yes he is!
