How is that "welfare" defined, this reliance on government services, programs and supports? Does it include our military? Basic science and research? Police? Senior citizens. Retirees. People with disabilities. Our Interstate systems? Border guards? FAA? Teachers? Veterens benefits? Farm subsidies and price supports? Various energy supports? Corporate welfare in its many, varied and broad guises?

Or is it all basically what is being wasted on some indolent underclass of "others" (certainly not you, I or anyone we associate with.), "takers" beyond any real hope of redemption that must simply be cast off to the wilderness to fend for themselves?

How many then, too, are contributing to our society in all the varied ways (taxes of all forms, fees, duties, etc.) in support of our general welfare?

Call me crazy, but that is a FAR MORE ACCURATE representation than the inverse (where that household is counted as one individual. After all, each of those mouths marks an increase in the amount of "welfare" which must be provided to that single household.

But if these data points are viewing a single household as a single person, that number is skewed. If you have a husband, wife, 4 kids, and two parents living in a household where nobody works, what is the total number of people on government assistance? 2? 4? 8?

To me, that is 8 people dependent on the government for their livelihood.

I go by statistics that have logical backings. If there are 100 checks going out to welfare recipients, I count that as 100 people on welfare. I don't count their elderly parent on SS who happens to live with them as on welfare, too. There is proof of the check going to the recipient.....there is bias and no proof that it supports 8 people underneath the recipient.

I'm not going to get in a heated argument with you over what you perceive that you wrote. I responded based on what I perceived that you wrote. You implied multiple times that there are 100m people on welfare, which there are not. Use whatever anecdotal, unlikely case you want.....oh wait!

No, it's not because it's not PC, it's because it's a red-herring. Only idiots harp on social programs that waste 1% of the overall spending in our budget, all while ignoring 30% of our budget that is essentially handouts to those who are far wealthier. Only idiots claim their is major fraud in the "welfare system" but cannot provide proof, only idiots will chastise people for using public assistance programs that are available to them, but simultaneously ignore or even idolize people for utilizing the tax system to skirt as much financial burden as possible.

It's not because it's not politically correct, it's because it's stupid, just like the people who believe that bullshit. And if you feel like you fall into that category, so be it.
