Price Check

Hey everyone,

I'm close to getting into an E46 really soon. I wanted to ask what you think is a fair price to ask a dealer for the following car:

2005 M3 Coupe
45K Miles
SMG Transmission
Silver Gray
Black Leather Interior
Competition pkg
Premium pkg
Cold Weather pkg
Navigation
H/K Sound
Sunroof
HIDs

Basically a LOADED car. Dealer is asking $30,000. What would be fair to offer?

I'd say $29,000... take it to get a PPI, then, whatever is wrong with the car you can substitute that from the price also.

If the dealers wants 30 that means they expect 27. Going in with a set price, if the dealer can't match it walk away.

The car is at an actual BMW Dealer so I would assume to not needing an outside PPI done or to sill get one?

Get a PPI, whether it's at a BMW dealership or not. The selling dealership shouldn't have a problem with you getting it inspected by another party. If they do, walk away. If you don't have the service history, assume that it wasn't done.

I'd go $26k
PPI for sure and make sure they look for any over spray or paint work. Dealers are the absolute worst. They will do quick cheap fixes if there are any issues. None of this will be on the carfax.
I bought an 06 z4 m coupe from bmw dealer got it home washed it and paint came off the wheels and reviled major repair work so then I started noticing over spray on head lights and a bunch of broken plastic underneath. I thought if it was coming from a dealer it would be tight. I'm a fool.

Relying upon the dealer to do a PPI is the same as not having one done. In fact everyone knows that a dealer is the WORST place to have a PPI done.

And a seller cannot do an objective PPI.

Get one done. Not at the BMW dealer.

done. maybe 26.5-27 if the car is tip-top (valve adj, no curb rash). Ask the dealer to pull the VIN's service history through BMW NA. Doesn't matter. They can still provide it even if it has never been serviced at their specific dealer.

It would show manf. date, re-calls, options and service etc.

I pulled this info for every single car that went through the CPO/Non-CPO process for a local dealer in NY.

I would put my money on the fact that they gave the previous owner $24.5-$25 max on the trade-in.

Use that to your advantage. If they are obnoxious...walk away.
