My 2000 323ci had the same problem. Ended up being the belt
Pulleys.

Cheap and easy fix

To test it take out your belt and try spinning the pulley, if
They free spin there are bad. They must be sorta stiff.

I believe theres a few DIY videos on YouTube

Replace your belts and pullies, it's only $160 if you use all Dayco parts from Advance...

I had a similar squeal and then it turned into only squealing around 1200 - 3000 rpm at light to moderate throttle sounding like a supercharger. I changed my belts and pullies (2 ended up being bad) and now it's silent.

My CCV went bad last week and leading up to it, it didn't make any weird noises like this. Back in the summer/fall it did moan sometimes when shutting off the car instead of a clean hiss indicating it was about to fail/getting clogged.

My car makes a noise kind of like a supercharger as well but only sometimes and only when the engine is cold. It goes away after a while...

Pulleys. Replace them and the belts before a pulley locks up, you throw a belt, and you're stranded and/or overheat the engine and/or loose power steering.

Ok thanks a lot. Around how much would I be looking at spending for changing the pulleys and belts?

$155ish is what I spent on both tensioner pulleys, the ider, and both belts from AdvanceAuto. I got all Dayco brand and did it myself in like 20 minutes. It's very easy on coupes, I read that sedans have a mechanical fan but haven't verified that. Coupe fan has a clip on one top corner and a bolt in the other, remove a couple harnesses from top passenger side and it lifts right out.

Isn't there also different type of pulleys that free up more power or something like that? Should I get something like Rogue or Turner Motorsport pulleys?
