Ok so my car lately has been having troubles starting. at first I thought it was the fuel pump cuz I couldnt really hear it. but then a couple of days later the car started again and you could hear the fuel pump fine. Now its just driving me nuts because sometimes it starts, sometimes it just cranks with no start. and sometimes it cranks very briefly starts to turn over but then dies. what could be causing this!!

its a 2003 about 104 K miles on it. im not sure how old the battery is but i was also thinking it could be a problem on it so I will probably take it out and have it tested tomorrow. and no I didnt know you could check the voltage readout on the dash. I just bought the car so I'm pretty new to it

Please try to be VERY detailed in your descriptions of your problems. Did it turn over or did you just hear clicking sounds, or did nothing happened at all? Others will be along to help you but you'll receive the most help from those who can provide it if you show a willingness to do some things to help yourself. It can be as simple as a dying battery.

First thing to do is take your battery out and take it to Advance Auto Parts to get tested. They will charge it within a half hour and test it fully. Take it back to your car and start from there.
It will be either electrical or fuel, but you need a fully charged battery to move beyond it. Last edited by BMWCaptain; 02-07-2013 at 11:12 PM. Reason: Auto-save 1360300367 |

yeah i looked up how to look up the info on my dash and I will do so tomorrow as my car wouldnt start when I was my my girlfriend's house. and when I tried to jump the car I did it with the battery in the trunk. and it did the same this as it has been doing it just cranked but no start. tonight it started fine and I drove over to my girlfriends and when I tried to start it again is when it wouldnt start. it would crank and try to turn on momentarily but then go back to just cranking. it seemed like it was on the verge of starting a couple of times but then would just go back to cranking

I never had any problems with the car though. no lights on the dash or anything. could it still be my battery even though I didnt have any warning lights come on?

Yes a failing battery can cause a multitude of issues...
