e46 seat in an e36?

I didn't search...anyone know if the rails are the same width and allow an easy swap? I want to give a friend of mine my old seat.

I know the connectors probably won't fit, but we can splice the wires as needed...not an issue.

Thanks...sorry for being lazy!

I'm just guessing they won't since everything on an E46 is fatter than an E36.

Hey mate, just typed "e46 seats in e36" into google and these were the first results. Hope the links help.

In short it, yes can be done, just one of the bolt holes sits slightly further back

Thanks, Goon...I figured I can be lazy on occasion since I'm not lazy here so often!

So, evidently a little 'filing' of the holes on the seat's rails and they'll bolt up...then, as expected, swapping wires around on the harness.

Easy(ish)

I didn't even know I was at 20K until Kalim warned me, the post before! ha.

I think I've done enough here, though...don't you think I should be exempt from searching? Besides, how could I have figured out on my own to google "e46 seats in an e36"? It was too obvious!

Anyway, many here have succumbed to their post count far before me...I think I've been reasonable modest about my participation here and I bet you'd agree that there are some here who have gone crazy from fanaticitis...but I won't name names!

they should fit they are not bigger, they actually have the same power connector , if both seats are power ,easy way to find out is measure the bolt holes front to back and diagonally

I asked about this back when i had the e36, the answer was that they could basically bolt in, but they dont line up perfectly.
So sometimes you sort of have to muscle the bolt in.

According to the threads I read, the holes are off by a few mm's, fixed with a little filing of the holes in the seat. I'm glad to hear it sounds like the connectors will fit, but if not, no big deal...splicing is easy enough.
