lab rat, I have the ESS tune (TS2 for the 83mm pulley). I thought about a custom tune when I went to the smaller pulley, but a friend (with many years of SC / tuning experience) said stick with the ESS tune and let the meth compensate for the smaller pulley. I have put about 5000 miles on this setup so far and the only thing I am worried about at this time is my 5-speed tranny taking a dump. About 15,000 miles ago I was changing the transmission fluid and a flat L-shaped piece of metal came out (barely fit through the drain hole, but I got it out). I thought...uh oh...time to search for a used tranny. So 15,000 miles later with a UCC short shift kit installed since....it is still pulling hard. But with this setup and extra boost the tranny is my biggest worry right now. The great thing though is there are many 5-speeds for the 330i on ebay.de here in Germany with an average cost of around 350 Euro with about 60k miles on them (and most with a year warranty). I will absolutely post any negative news concerning my setup on this forum on my TS2 modded setup. But so far besides the tranny, I have only two other negatives on this SC setup. One is dealing with the AEM system and it is minor right now. I think it might be due to some bad wiring connections, but the system maybe once a week will very quickly trigger without hitting the boost level (mine is set to start at 5psi). It is a burst only in milliseconds and does cause a surge in the car so I know it is spraying. Again, I just need to check my wiring to make sure I am not at fault before blaming the system. My "failsafe" is having an on/off switch and turning the system on only after the engine has warmed up so I don't accidently "dump" the mix on a cold SC......and eroding my cores as stated above as a concern. Oh and the other negative about this setup is putting too many miles on the car because I never want to stop driving it, especially on the autobahn. It is sooooo fun. 165mph comes quick.

have you done the cams? Have you done any additional head work?

No Cams and no additional headwork. Just headers, exhaust and 50/50 spray. I also put an aluminum sump in the drug bin for the intercooler to hold more liquid (also makes it easier to add liquid and eliminates any air in the lines). Also no ping. Runs smooth. I will keep this thread updated on how this setup is going. At this time my car is in the garage with a cover on it as the weather is the pits here in Germany. I can't wait till next month to give it some sunlight again. It has been there since the beginning of Dec.

I would love to see some pics of your additional coolant tank and hose routing.

Sorry for the delay. This is an early picture which does not show the modified aluminum intake body with the AEM meth kit, but does show the "drug bin" intercooler tank. If anyone wants the guys name who made it let me know. He is online and specializes in building custom intercoolers. I've got the dimensions if needed. You could probably build one with a little more capacity, but this one works great for me. Notice in this picture it was hitting the hood barely and I put a pad in between a corner and the hood when closed. I since moved it down slightly so it clears fine. Just had to bend the tabs slightly down. It is a solid piece of work he did and the hookup was easy. The car is covered in the garage since snow is all over the place here, but I plan to take it out mid/late March. I can get some better pics with some covers off if you would like to see all the plumbing etc. I ordered the connections from him also. It was a very reasonable price (I need to look that up also if interested).

I would like very much to see under the cabin air intake and how the hoses are routed off the laminova cooler - how tight are the bends?

I'll have it out in a month and take a picture of the whole setup. The bends are not tight. I wish the setup would have come like this with an extra tank because it is much easier to check fluid level and fill/change when needed. Of course ESS would have made it prettier, but it works like a champ....and doesn't look too bad either.

Intercooler Tank with hose routing

So I pulled the car out Saturday and cruised up the Autobahn. Ran into a Porsche Panamera S which couldn't keep up, then a Ferrari F430 Spider (sounds awesome) which pulled away from me, but not like he thought he would and a new 991 Carrera 4S 911 (400hp) which he inched away from me until I hit the 165mph limiter. We started around 90mph and he gained about three car lengths on me up to 165mph then pulled away. All were on a four lane straight Autobahn. It was fun. Anyway, here is the pictures of my intercooler tank and hose routing. Notice that I turned the nozzle the opposite direction coming out of the lam. It was pretty easy. Checking, changing and filling up the tank is so much easier now.

damnit

I am on Summit now looking at tanks

Without me having to go down to the garage - anyone know the space measurements in the drug bin area?

Tank

This is what I sent to Donny at http://dadscustomintercoolertank.com. I did change the height to 7 inches instead of 6.5. Keep it at 6.5..if you use my dimensions since the edge barely hit my hood and I had to force it down a half inch (just bent the tabs down a little). I am sure you could get a bigger tank out of it if you tried that is not shaped like a box since the wheel well comes up from the front. This has worked for me though. At the time Donny charge 155 bucks for the tank and another 20 or so for fittings plus shipping. He had a couple of other options you can ask about. All I did was find a card board box that fit the bin and based the dimensions off of that. I did not have him drill the tabs so I could "fine tune" the holes that I drilled myself. This is how the kit should have come. If you do it you will see why it just makes sense.
