My Ride: 2003 BMW 330Ci
Getting bored of my 330 coupe :/

So.. it's up for sale.. testing waters at 13k right now. I should have it paid off in May, but I just threw it up for sale to find potential buyers.

It's fully loaded with the sports, premium, and winter packages.
5 speed manual tranny.

Now, I've driven fast sports cars before (mostly imports), drifted, and everything else..
I bought a BMW mostly for the hell of it, to see how I'd like it.. and I do like it!
The thing is, I don't know if I can have fun as much fun with it as I want to, at least without something going wrong.
It's little heavy, which isn't my primary concern, but still..
I feel guilty if I push it (redline) it, because I can't see it as a sports car or anything like that, even though it is quick.
I don't know how much "push" the motor can handle..
I know if something breaks, repairs will be expensive..

Is it okay for me to keep pushing the car a little? It's my daily.
It's not like I'm abusing the car, but I do like to push it and go fast from time to time.

Again, It's not an asshole driver or a bad driver, I just like to have some fun times and do some quick pulls to redline from time to time - I just feel guilty.

I will be selling the car soon (before summer) and will be looking into something else.
If I buy something on more of the cheaper side (i.e. 240), I'd be willing to drop money on the motor.

Here are a few of my options..

370z (if I'll have the money)
335i coupe (if it can handle some spirited street driving)
240sx (450whp potential)

I don't want to go American, and I want to stay away from German cars if I can't have fun with them like I can with a Nissan.
I don't wait any Hondas either..

My IDEAL price range is 5-20k.

I'm just trying to find a RWD car that I could have some fun with and that won't need 5k worth of repairs right after I buy it.

I'm not on the track, just the streets.

Any suggestions would be helpful
Thanks!

Hahaha... you're worried about something going wrong if you push your 330, so you consider a 335? Better do some research. You'll become acquainted with the term "limp mode" soon after making the purchase.

fyi this is a horrible place to ask for any advice on anything other than a BMW or suggest that any other car might be better for you and your specific wants and needs. Just trust me on that one. I mean that in a neutral, non-condescending way.

Never said I was committed to the 335 lol. I haven't studied up on it, it was one I just recently started considering.
Thanks for the input though!

Well where would I ask? Lol.

If people here fail to just suggest a car and a reason as to why they listed it.. then idk what to say -__-

My Ride: 2003 M3
Have you driven any of the cars you've suggested. I had a 330i I bought for a nice safe car that looked great and the 3 searies won car of the year like 13 years in a row. But I also had a WRX which I sold that a few years ago. I definitely missed that performance and pushing a car to the edge. I understand how you can say you have a bored feeling. I babied my bmw and never modded it. Something I can't say for the subie. Anyway I drove lots of cars while looking for another fun car. 350z, audi tt, rx-8, mostly disappointed in all. They feel so cheap now after having driven a bmw for so long. I upgraded to the M3. Best move I made. I suggest driving as many choices as you can and if you can drive an e46 m3.

Yeah, that's another option of mine. The e46 M3.
Would it make for a better DD than an e92 335?
I've driven one, but it was an SMG, which I would never purchase...
I honestly feel like purchasing another 240, but this time building the SR, or maybe drop a 2j into it.

No.. lol. Drifted the 240. -__-

You say "he's a drifter" like the only thing I do is drift lol.
I just drift around occasionally. Nothing competitive.
Can we stick to the topic though?

My Ride: still a gay 135i
135i then put in a wavetrac LSD, DPs and a tune. I can assure you that it won't get boring or possibly a super clean E30, swapped or boosted. Has a little bit more character and class as opposed to a regular 240 drift pig.

I've actually always loved the 240 and Silvia conversions. Honesty you'd be spending a lot of money if you want to buy and mod a 135 or 335 compared to a 240 project. Or there's a guy selling his R33 on this site. But looks like no one wants to pay his price.

^ Lol yeah I was somewhat expecting it. I might consider a white 135 though. Even though a little money into the sr20 would blow it out of the water in terms of power and reliability.

I don't understand why you don't think you can push your car. Bmw might be one of the only companies that makes a car that is great on the street and can take a hard thrashing on a track. Maybe exempt the 330 because of the damper. But yeah, a bmw will handle a thrashing stock better than just about any other affordable stock car.

If you need something faster, I understand. If you want something lighter, I definitely understand and recommend a miata or e30. But if you're serious in saying you don't think it's capable then you need to rethink.

You want something sportier but didn't put the e46 m3 up there?

335i won't feel very sporty without mods but I think the e46 m3 should be considered. Just as fast as the 370z and handles better.

With non-m bmw's it seems to be just better if you keep the revs below 6000. :/

It sounds like you want a 240. A friend of mine went though this. The BMW had power and was classy and nice, but a nicely built 240 is where he wanted to be.

I don't know how you can deal with the 330 and that open diff. With a price range of 20k you could get an E46 M3 and put it on coils and sways and be done. maybe some bushings. That's an engine which doesn't mind being used properly.

Another 240 is definitely an option.. 2k for an sr20 motor + tranny, 8-9k in parts, and boom; 450hp beast that weighs 2800 lbs
It'd be sick. Although at the same time I would really like a nice car (135?) that's still quick.. but then I'd be stuck with payments :/
