Painted my walnut interior trim today

Hey yall how's it goin?
Made a trip to home drpot today and bought some paint! 2 cans of spray on black plasti dip, and 2 cans of rustoleum ckear coat.

I ended up using both cans of the plasti dip and one can if the clear. The clear is essential if you dont want to scratch the black paint. So I removed all the dash panels including the shifter plate and shifter

I just used a plastic panel removal tool from AutoZone. I used some windex to clean the pieces and then started my first if six coats of paint. I then used 3 coats of clear. The clear left a slight texturized finish but I like it. It will look good with the beige interior

if you did not use promoter, that will peel. you'll see small chips.

Oh I didnt but I have done other cars for people in the past and they are yet to complain. I just did my own today. But I will next time thanks for the tip. And here are the installed pics

Yes indeed it has. The wood was all cracked from the texas heat and I just wanted a change.

It looks awful! Looks like he painted it with plasti dip in his garage when it was 30 degrees outside so it came out all lumpy.

Why not just sand the trim down, and do the paint right? Wouldn't be that much harder, and would look much better!

stay away from the plastidip man, look into a vinyl wrap, pretty easy and looks better

oh god.. plastidip infected trim... why spend all that time just to plastidip.. i would have sanded and done gloss black paint.

plasti-dip adhesion issues by nature. windex as a cleaner prior to paint = more adhesion issues. no scuffing to existing base prior to paint = much more adhesion issues. keep us posted.

Low energy surfaces need at least grit paper and adhesive like promoter prior to spraying. it is cheaper just to sand down, but then youll see the beautiful black background and the film peeling off. it's been 5 years sice I painted mine, and they are still in perfect shape. grit, promoter, primer, paint and clearcoat...simple
