Ipad mini mounted in dash. Suggestions.
Hi!
I'm thinking of making a integrated mount for my ipad mini in my dash. The plan is to remove the vents in the center of the dashboard, any suggestions on this? Here is a youtube link. It's not a E46, but the placement of the mount would be the same. I'm think it is best to go for the ipad mini, cuz it would not block to mutch sight thrugh the windcreen. If anyone have any input, or some links to someone that have done something like this, it would be great. |

I have now started on the project. Until now I have removed the air vents in the center console. I have made a mold that I wait for to dry so I can sand it to the proper shape. Photos coming soon.

You inspire me. I'd thought of the same thing when the iPad Mini came out. I can't wait to see your results.

Okey, time for an update! I have made two dockings since last update, but have not been completely satisfied with the result. I saw these guys made this "floating"-docking for cars. Uses magnets to hold the iPad in place. This should be prettey easy. Here's todays progress;
I taped up the iPad useing maskingtape. And put fiberglass on the back side of the iPad. A plasticbag was great to work on, since the glue doesn't stick that hard to it. ![]() Took about 10-15min for the fiberglass to dry up. Here's a pic after I popped the iPad out. ![]() Next I smoothed out the edges around the iPad and the mold itself. Then chacked the fitment. Perfect fit! ![]() Next step will be integrating magnets to hold it in place. I've orderet this slim magnetic caseing for ebay I will modify. New updated in a few weeks. |
