As far as I can tell it is fairly straight forward with the internals swap.

labrat: I don't know if you have seen this thread of the internals thread or not but it was documented fairly well. http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...highlight=azzy

You can keep the same rods and crank from the 330 since they are forged and just get aftermarket forged pistons for whatever compression ratio you want to run and be set up.

First box of parts for the transmission swap showed up a day early. Rest should be here tomorrow. Here is a couple pictures. Does the flywheel look good? There are no cracks or pitting or burns.

It's a 5 speed swap. 1000.00 shipped for everything. I just ordered a new clutch kit and am debating with myself which ssk to get.

The rest of my parts showed up today. UPS damaged my rear transmission case and when the fluid soaked the box they wrapped it in plastic then put another box around it. So that sucks. I checked the shifting of all gears, all was fine so I pulled the rear case to take it to work with me tomorrow and get it welded. There was minimal metal on the magnet and all my gears and synchros look great. Also, the seller refunded me 300 dollars to put towards the fix.

Yep kind of sucks. It still might get done this weekend, the welders at work said it shouldn't be a problem as long as he can control the cool down. I will find out tomorrow morning it will get fixed or not. Already have a rear housing lined up if it doesn't work out tomorrow.

Good luck. I just left the twinscrew world...it sure was fun!
An LSD is pointless for a street car if you ask me. You really can't push the car hard enough to really take advantage of it on the streets. MOST will also find the car harder to control with an LSD and will be more likely to end up in a ditch. Read my thread. There will be more to it that swapping in the internals if you want the engine to last. Machine work will be critical. Otherwise...you might be in for a surprise. You may also get lucky...not sure I'd take that $3k chance. Last edited by bigjae1976; 02-15-2013 at 09:16 AM. |

My mid 300hp small block was an LSD and that thing would spin the tires getting on it half way. Of course it had 380ft/lbs. I may just end up swapping in a low mileage engine instead of the internals swap. That's a bit down the road either way. I got my transmission case back from the welders today. Did a great job.

Good progress, I hope you have engine hoist or strong friends. Lifting the SC in place is not a one man job. There are plugs and cables that need to be connected while the SC is about 4 inches away from the engine. And it needs to be done quickly because the liquid sealant is drying fast.

Yes have that plan all down for Saturday. The only reason I'm holding off on the blower right now is so the starter is easier to hold in place. Everything for the transmission swap is finished except bolting the transmission in.

Have everything installed. Car started right up and proceeded to miss fire badly. Couldn't get any throttle reaction then it died. Pulled codes, miss fire 1,2,3,5. Started car again with foot on throttle and it revved perfectly, then below 2500rpm no throttle response and sputters and dies. I can hold it above 2500 rpm and everything is good, quick revs, no hesitations, good throttle response. Below 2500 rpm and nothing. I double checked everything. I don't know what it could be except the tune?
