I assume when you're fixing cranes and rigs in negative 40, you're wearing shorts and a T-shirt, right?

I regularly work in 30-40F in a Tshirt....... You get used to it but I've never been one to "be cold" I must have good circulation.
That said can you not buy a hoody or jacket in Virginia??

As soon as I can start seeing my breath, it's too cold to work in the garage. Anything above that and you're moving around it'll be fine.

How long is the job to replace what you need to replace? I would drive the car around the block and get it up to temp...hell, give it the beans and get it VERY hot (exhaust, etc)...then park it in the garage. The ambient heat of the car will be enough to warm the garage, especially under the car to get you through the job.

Depends what you are working on. In that kind of temp, the car won't be "hot" for more than 15 minutes. I'd pull it in, pop the hood, and within 20 minutes, the car will just be warm and the garage will be 20 degrees warmer. Working in the cold with shaking hands is when sh!t happens. You drop bolts, you scratch things, you snap things, etc.

80 in your house? WTF? Are you a lizard? My house is at 69 and never higher. I'd be dying of heatstroke if my house was 80 degrees.

My girl likes it cold. At 40, the windows are open. Thermostat is set to 62. In the summer time were usually at 69.

Done the CCV before....lots of little steps...but overall a straight forward project. Biggest tip for ya....make absolute sure the hoses are locked into their fittings when you connect them all. Beleive half are snap fit....and the other half are insert and twist a few degrees to lock. PRACTICE the hose fitting techniques on your work bench so you know what it feels like when you are cramped under the hood in contorted postions.
Last thing you want is to have to tear it all apart later because you were a noob and didn't get the hose connected right.
