SEAL who shot UBL speaks out

http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/11/us/esq...html?hpt=hp_t1

What do y'all think of this? I'd like to read the magazine article to see what else is in it, but I don't think he has much to complain about because he did get out early. Still, I thought that you get some sort of pension based on your pay for the rest of your life, assuming you got honorably discharged.

What I really want to know is his take on the book was. Was the book a fair representation of what actually happened?

I do tend to agree that he should have some sort of protection if there is any possibility his identity could be exposed. The guy is probably fairly high on the individual attack list for Al Queda and the Taliban

Quit his job early --> correct
Signed up as SEAL --> correct, but POTUS and others who act for America or for the State to their detriment get protection (Witness Protection Program)

Goes on TV and writes book --> Not correct. Different guy. The SEAL who wrote the book and was on TV was behind this guy during the raid. This guy's identity remains protected

Correct. And his reason for leaving was his own and I respect that.....but, he knew the rules are the same for everyone in the military as far as retirement and medical insurance. I have known several people who got out of the military one enlistment away from retirement. They make the choice....Federal service will let you put your military time towards retirement though.

I'm thinking that there should probably be some sort of different arrangement for special forces people. Those guys have the most dangerous jobs and actually become wanted men in loads of countries around the world. They have prices on their heads. The average military guy doesn't have that problem. 20 years in special forces is pretty unbelieveable actually

This.

I can not fathom what this man went through, has seen and felt, and experienced. Tons of respect for him. But he knows the rules. Vets get a pension and benefits at 20 years, not 16. Just because he shot bin Laden doesn't mean he gets special treatment. Do I disagree with this? Hell yeah I do, I think Tier 1 Special Operators should get special treatment, like early pension and other perks. But they don't. The SEAL took the job KNOWING what the job requires, and knowing when he gets a pension. Unfortunately, he has no room to complain. I read the article and was very intrigued by it, but the rules are the rules.
