.40sw is a higher pressure round, therefore it inherently has more felt recoil. This leads to slower follow up shots. This would be fine if the ballistics were vastly superior to 9mm or .45, but they aren't. Not to mention accelerated gun wear.
The .40S&W is a great round...it gives you more knock down power than a 9, and less recoil than a .45...It also allows for the smaller handed person to hold it better as previously mentioned....as far as greater gun wear? I have a sig p229 from 1999 that has had tens of thousands of rounds shot through it and it is all original still....

Also, if you are not using a plastic gun, the recoil is negligible from a 9 to a 40...I carried the 9 in the Navy and would have much rather carried my sig

Good deal on the Kimber. I assume you plan on carrying the 19?

as long as i get my carry permit i do. Plus i like the size of the 19, and i have a full size 226 & plan on a full size m&p, so the 19 should fit in just fine, plus i think kaci will enjoy shooting the 19.

Here is the mock up of my first 80% Bulgarian AK 74 builds. The parts kit came from Atlantic Firearms, the barrel from What a Country, and some misc parts from AK builder. The 80% receiver is coming from Marsh Hawk Arms. Already I think an AK Builder flat with the jig would be easier, but they weren't in stock.

No pics yet but I live near Sig Academy in New Hampshire. I heard that their pro shop is a nice hidden secret being that it usually has some good stuff in stock. Today didn't disappoint, I grabbed a M400 Enhanced along with a red dot site and mount. Looking forward to putting a few down the pipe

"Knock down power" is a myth. People don't get knocked down or stopped by the energy of a 9mm, .40sw or a .45acp.
The reasons people stop are...
1. shock of getting shot/pain
2. getting hit in the CNS or other vital organs
3. bleeding out

.40sw has snappier recoil than .45acp and 9mm. A .45acp in the same platform is easier to shoot than a .40sw in my opinion. It is more of a push recoil rather than snap. The ballistics of .40sw are not significantly better than a 9mm to justify the recoil and lower capacity. Shot placement is key when stopping someone. If a 9mm isn't going to stop someone, then a .40sw won't do any better. 425 ft/lb vs 480 ft/lb of energy is pretty negligible, but higher capacity and ease of follow up shots is not imo.

If you want something with energy then get a 10mm, 750 ft/lb. My glock 20 in 10mm with hot rounds only feels slightly more snappier than a .40sw. It is the same type of recoil, but has a lot more energy. I use it as my backup hunting sidearm.

I'm sure you know this, but be sure to check the individual state statutes when you travel. Some will only recognize a resident permit, not a non-resident.

I disagree with this. To each their own though.
