People who grab the foregrip like their dick have got it all wrong IMO.

There's application for them, but there are other products that have very similar effect.

I wasn't saying that you shouldn't use it, I was saying just take it off if it won't fit in the case with it on.

I was going to use the term broomstick grip, but I guess they are both the same thing. The problem that I found by using the broomstick grip is that the AR is very top heavy and pivots quite a bit on recoil and transitions. If you are using the forward grip as a hand stop as David described above then that's fine too, but you can find much shorter versions that will still allow it to fit in the case.

i've noticed when people use this method with their VFG's, they tend to like an AFG. and people who use AFGs typically like handstops.

i've noticed im a little wierd with handstops though. instead of using them to stop my support hand at either the front or rear, i usually have my hand placed so that the stop(larue) rests between my middle and ring fingers. i have yet to see someone else do this. tell me im not wierd.

I made the transition from broom handle, to AFG, to handstop. I tried no handstop, but it never felt comfortable.

Not weird. I sometimes rest mine in the same place, but that's only with my SBR.

Got my mags from PSA today. It took exactly two weeks & 2 days to get here from date of order... Not bad...

Unfortunately, I dropped them both into the lake while ice fishing only an hour after I got the box from UPS...

Some noob at my range this weekend said to his friend...about me..... ( I was shooting my friend's Winchester 7mm bolt action)....

"Wow look at that idiot. You would think he can stop listening to music while he is shooting his rifle." (Luckily his friend quickly schooled him)

I was wearing ear protection.

I'll admit, when I was playing OPFOR for the OCS kids in the field this past summer, when we moved to the village lanes, I used my noise canceling earbuds and listed to music while killing candidates from my window

EDIT: it was Daft Punk

You can use those mounts, but they suck. They are not very strong, they have very poor and unreliable RTZ capability, and the positioning of the optic is not ideal. Use it as a last resort if you can. It's 30yr old tech; no reason to use it on a modern gun.

Would it be better to convert it to a flat top?

Do I have to stick with Armalite's conversion kit? Or are there others? What tools do I need to buy to do this? Any videos on how?

Yes, there is this list of downsides.

I know I hated my gooseneck on my A2, which would be why I never qualified with the red dot and left the rifle in a rack all year while deployed.
