Dude if you can drive do it. If you trust yourself 99.9% DON'T. Everyone on here says this car is VERY powerfully in reality in a straight line it really isn't.thats why I'm looking into e60 m5. That is coming next for me. The e46 m3 is AMAZING in the corners. But if you get it I recommend leave the tracking control alone cuz when that shits off HOLD on lmao

15K will get you 100+k high mileage car. make sure you have enough $$$$ for maintainance since your getting a high mileage considering all the over due repairs.

I feel that there is just too much temptation in the car.
I mean, I'm not the most responsible lad out, but I'm also no idiot.
In saying this, I know that having an M3 at that age would have been a bad idea.

A 320, 325, or 330 would be good. Especially with a manual box.
I've seen E90 320i 5spd with 20k miles for cheaper than an E46 M3 with 60k miles (in NZ)
The E90 320i with the 5spd is plenty of power for a learner, and it's a fantastic car.

Get some driving lessons from BMW or Merc at one of their track experience days, that's a couple hundred for sure.

Give one a drive. Especially with the manual box.

The one I drove wasn't even M-sport, still handled nicely.
Obviously with some coilovers that would improve the cornering immensely.

If you can get an M-sport all the better.

If you get a m3 dont get a smg. Mine just went out at 60k. Now im doing a 6 speed conversion. If i would of done the research in detail of all the mechanical problems i probably would have not of got the m3. Unless you have extra 3k in the bank for random mechanical break downs i would not get this car. Oil changes are 100 if you change it your self. Everything is expensive for our cars. If you really want one look into Vanos and subframe issues. Im 18 and i had the m3 for 6 months and i haven't even gone over 100mph because theirs no safe place around me to do so. just drive responsibly and you will be fine. Get a Pre purchase inspection from a independent shop not the dealer. Now that i own it i love it more every day. Also if you purchase a M3 get ready for the mod bug. You will spend every dollar on this car its an addiction lol.

What would've happened if that car was a Civic? The same thing. It doesn't matter what car you're driving. It's the driver. An accident is an accident.

Less likely for a lad to show off in his Civic on an airfield at 3am doing 0-60 in 14.3 seconds.

True, however, that's not the point.

Debatable. From your previous post I take that you are saying responsibility lies with the driver.

In a Civic with 120 horses to push it along a kid (with an underdeveloped hippocampus) and poor judgement isn't given the option of sending his buddies into the back of their seats.
The temptation of 350+ horses and torque to throw his mates heads back is too much for a youngster.

Then again, this might be a superkid with wisdom beyond his years.

Get a e46 330. Got a little pull but nothing serious. I just got it as my first car 3 months ago and even when i am tempted to shoot around i am limited. Whatever you do make sure your focused when your driving and stay safe

Good point. Some civics are insanely fast. All on the driver.

strongly disagree. never heard of any civic being able to hit anywhere close to 200mph with 4 people in the car. although the outcome might have been similar, however, 1). teen would be way less likely to show off its "power" (Vtech kicked in YO) 2). he/she would be even less likely to test out its top speed capabilities with 4 people in the car.

BTW OP, im 28 and i got into plenty of trouble with a turbo'd car (not a civic, had at most 1/2 the power of an M5) back in the day. id agree with most who say that you should consider a 330 or something like it instead simply because maintenance of a high-mileage M3 is a costly proposition...ask me how i know.

True but it doesn't have to be a civic. Could of been a mustang or a srt4 it was bound to happen
