Hi
I've found an M3 with alright mileage, competitively priced (for the NZ market) and a good service history. It's also built in November 2000. http://bmwvin.com/?vin=JR00024&confirm_code=yngwh There are a few things I'd like your input on. Firstly, the build sheet says it has a "low compression engine" - what does this mean? A local BMW enthusiast said it's probably a mistake on the build sheet. I'll ask the dealer to confirm whether it is low compression or not when I get pre-purchase check but what is the LC engine? Secondly, I was looking at the UUC short shifter kits, (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-12...it-e46-m3.aspx) And it says that it fits 2001-2006 M3. Will this not fit the 2000 year or is this a mistake? Any other points of interest on the car? It has spec which I like: Carbonschwarz Metallic paint Cinnamon Nappa leather seats 6 Speed manual Sunroof Rear sunblind CSL splitters Carbon fog light covers I'll be updating all the lights to facelift, and giving the car a general freshen up if I get it but I'd appreciate your input! Note: I am in New Zealand! |

Its just a designation for your build sheet. Not the sign of any issue.
Note: US build sheets do not reflect this.

2001 was the first year of this model, and the first ones were built in 2000.

So the SSKs that say 2001+ will fit the car?
I suppose built 2000, register 2001 initially? |

Your part designation 2001-2006 is the model year designation, not the manufacture date.

You pretty much sum this forum up lately.
Try http://www.m3forum.net Usually a lot more welcoming than this forum has become. |

Here in the US we register based on model year not manufacture date. The first models are always released one year early.

SSK will fit. Cinnamon interior is really nice. Be sure to get the subframe checked.

That particular car has now gone off my radar as it was a bit've a dog. Got my eye on a Phoenix Yellow, 35,000kms (20k miles?), manual, no sunroof, cloth seats.. Main reason I'm lovin' it is because of the mileage! |

Cloth interior is nice. Just be sure to get a PPI done or else you may inherit a costly mess.

Check maintenance history, especially rod bearing recall, Here in the U.S its SIB#11-04-04 LBL code 422 M3 S54 Conn rod bearing e46 M3. Also if you could have an inspection done including taking the valve cover off to inspect the Vanos hub. The first models of M3:s seems to have more problems with broken tabs

Just to confirm the above, I own a 2000 328CI and the build date was November 1999.
