Maximum PSI E46 M3 turbo kit - current status 2/15/13
EDIT 2/16/13:
6 speed catless - $9800, catted $10000 SMG catless - $10000, catted $10200 Catless run from today: Twin scroll T4 tubular header Catless downpipe Stock section 2 Stock muffler 93 octane, 8.4psi 455whp/334tq on our Superflow dyno ![]() Hi Guys, We are working extremely hard to bring together the final dyno numbers for the SMG and 6 speed kits, and also catted/catless results. I prefer to be as transparent as possible, so I would like to give a run-down of what is currently going on at the shop: For those of you following, there are currently three cars with variations of our E46 M3 turbo kit up and running: My car(02 6 speed) has a ton of miles on it turbocharged and is running great. Most of those miles were with the initial Steedspeed manifold. I will get to its current state in a bit. Brian's E46 is our first customer car, an 04 6 speed. He was the first to get our tubular manifold, and he opted to run a stock mid pipe, his current aftermarket muffler, and an open dump. His car made excellent power up top, and the boost control was acceptable, although it did creep a bit as rpm increased. On the dyno it was a non-issue. He took the car and has put a bunch of miles on it and has posted his own thread on the forum. We recently found that in 6th gear with more load, the boost is creeping even higher than desired. I asked Brian to bring us back his car for hardware revisions and a software tweak as well. It is currently in the shop, and we will have the modifications finished shortly. In the mean time, we finished Dexter's 04 SMG install with the same header as Brian's, a recirculated wg, catless mid-pipe and aftermarket rear muffler. We put it on the dyno and noticed several things. Boost was creeping way worse than Brians, and power was also lower at the same boost level. We pulled off his turbo, header and downpipe and made some revisions. We got the new hardware installed and put it back on the dyno. Boost was now rock solid, however we were still down in power from Brian's car. We did some tests and found that his aftermarket muffler was robbing a bunch of power compared to stock. We also found that Dexters car had 10+psi more compression than my car and Brian's car. When it was NA we saw that his knock adaption was pulling 4 degrees timing out of the ignition maps. Sure enough, it wanted about 4-5 degrees less timing compared to the other two cars. It looks like there was some top end work done at some time, and likely the head was decked a bunch. Dexter currently has his car, and is waiting on results from my car to see if we will make a change to a larger turbine housing to pick up some more top end power. It spools up faster than Brian's car due to the new header/wg mods. The SMG system is working nicely with the turbo setup. After seeing the results from Brian's car and Dexter's, I pulled the hot side components off of my car and made the same revisions as Dexter's. Over the past week or so I have about 50 dyno runs with numerous different configurations, and I am very happy with the response, boost control, and top end power of the setup. The current catted vs catless results are also very promising for those looking to run catted, full sec 2 and stock muffler. That said, I have one last change to test before posting up dyno results for everything. This coming week I should have dynojet results for my car with the final catted and catless setups through the stock section 2 and muffler. Thanks for all of the interest in the kit, and for holding out for results/info. It really is worth the wait. I believe the setup going on my car this weekend will be the final hardware swap that will give us the best overall powerband. -Mike

Mike, thanks for taking the time to give us an update.. Look forward in seeing the results.
Im taking time to decide a few factors on my build, i may be looking on going with a stroker (3.4-3.5) on my build.. any insight on pairing that and a 6766 CEA?

^wonder if the better strategy is to underbore it, if boost is what you're after. Or just build the internals and leave the block alone.
Would be interesting to compare differences in the S54 v the other top teir I6's like the RB and JZ. I'd research to find out but I'm too lazy... |

Nice work guys's. I'm very very interested to see how everything comes together with more miles on the kit. You guys are not to far off the route of my bi monthly Atlantic City and Philly casino trips. I'll be checking this thread often and I appreciate your business ethics already. I have an 04 6spd coupe and I'm thrilled you guys already have been working on 03.5+, and are able to sort the bugs out with the newer model e46 M's. Good luck with everything and hope to be f/i sometime in the near future. Finally your good rep in the e36 crowd is moving on to our platform.

(I have enough more the enough fuel capability also I am looking to build my bottom end soon, so I am considering all my options) THANK YOU FOR LOOKING OUT FOR THE S54 Community

I'd happily pay 10k to see that on my dyno run.
the only problem for me being I'm in a '06 330ci, not an M. |

For the stock motor, we are working on higher boost options for both 109 octane and E85. We currently have a built motor car we are building in house. Feel free to give us a call if you are looking for a build along those lines.
