Question Front strut disassembly w/ OE sport springs

Saturday I am going to replace my front struts and rear shocks + all hardware: strut mounts, bolts, etc. The front struts have the original SPORT springs.

I have read some conflicting information about disassembly of the SPORT springs from the struts using rental spring compressors. Some people have absolutely no issues, others can't compress the spring enough to release enough tension to safely assemble or disassemble the strut. Any tips?

If they don't look like these: http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Spri...sor/ES1306817/

I wouldn't trust rentals unless you can physically place the strut into one of those compression machines. If you want to be on the safe side use more than two. Even with two the threaded rod will bend slightly.

If you do use rentals, be sure to open and inspect them with the renter. You also do not want to use an impact when trying to compress these tools. Remember safety first!

So I had trouble with the rental compressors. We gave up and brought the struts to a friend's shop and he compressed and re-assembled for free. Later on I realized he installed the two washers incorrectly. Instead of putting them between the strut hat and the strut bearing, he put them between the hat and bump stop. Any long term or safety issues with this? The car drives fine...so far.
