KC explosion

http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/19/us/mis...html?hpt=hp_t2

One witness told CNN affiliate KSHB a man who had a hand-held device came into the restaurant before the blast and told her and 10 others in JJ's to leave.

This is pretty crazy.

Wow. So by hand-held device, the media (or you) is implying that this person is suspicious?

+1

The media is implying that...I just added that to add excitement. It really is crazy though. The plaza is a major shopping/restaurant area. People reported smelling gas in the area an hour prior to the explosion.

That is how the media is trying to sensationalize it so we'll click the link...

The story I heard from local news as of 2 hours ago was that some workmen were laying fiber optic cable when then accidentally broke a gas line. The gas leak caused the explosion which happened to be right outside of a nice, popular restaurant. The explosion caused a water main to break, allowing water to fill the hole with gas still bubling up through the water so they had to wait until the gas was shut off to get the flames under control. I highly doubt any malicious intent, but that general area is probably one of the top places in the city for something to go down.

Here's my story. I drove right past that restaurant probably 5 minutes before it happened. The blast could be heard from over two miles away. The fire started while it was still light out but you could see the orange glow from the 6 story tall flames. The black smoke was caught in the wind and was carried across most of the skyline.

I really hope everybody injured makes a speedy and successful recovery.

Seriously - who cares about the square states?

edit: the sad thing about this post is someone will feel compelled to point out that Kansas is not square, thus I must put in a general education disclaimer to protect myself

Not too far from me at all. Went to the bar and everyone was buzzing about it, the bartenders at that bar also work parttime at the one that blew up.

No confirmed casualties yet, hopefully it stays that way.

I'm pretty critical of such things, but the CNN story doesnt read that way at all.
