Post Paint Chipping appears to Increase on Trunk Exterior

Hi there Fanatics,

So i've been having this issue with my Trunks exterior paint.
I bought the car about a year + ago and have noticed that the trunks exterior paint had a small chip at first, but now is spreading throughout the trunk.
I took some pictures for everyone to see and get a better look.
The trunks paint is chipping in places that just dont make sense.

When I bought the car (from auction) i was told that the car was never re-painted or in any accident, but it seems now that it may have been re-painted....

Question:
If i take my 2003 325xi to a BMW Collision Center, would they fix the trunks paint for me for free if it is the original coat of BMW Paint even if i dont still have warranty?

How much would it cost to re-do the trunk exterior paint at a local shop in Long Island, New York?
Any recommendations?

Looks like clearcoat failure.

It will probably be less expensive to just buy a used trunk of the same color.
