So my 323i with sp doesnt have those holes. I seem to have a band of trim below where its supposed to be and it curles back into the car. I managed to bend it a bit and found the T50 bolts. However does anyone have any idea how to remove that last layer of trim. I think it has plastic clips on it, but i havnt really had time to check it out properly. Also any ideas on the proper way to reset one of the rear shock absobers?

Is there a DIY for pre-facelift sedans?
I know there is one for coupes. Also does this mean a 2005 sedan's rear bumper won't work on a 2001 sedan due to the differences in connection to the vehicle?

This is a nice DIY but i think this one is for facelift sedan not for preface lift one. Mine is a 2000 323i and i cannot see any hole. I have to remove the lowest bumper trim and remove those 2 bolts from there. The bumper bracket and guide on the bumper as well as the one on the car are completely different.

Does anyone know if the bumper shocks can be pulled out or do they need to be replaced? My car was bumped slightly last night, no visible damage but the bumper is definitely pushed in about 1/2 an inch.

Would anybody know where you could find replacement bumper covers? Somebody lightly rear ended me and I felt that it would be better to just replace the cover myself than take it to the body shop.

Thanks for this write up. I used it today when replacing the bumper slider clips. The most time-consuming part of the job was getting the Torx T50s out - they were in pretty rough shape, so I cleaned them up before reinstalling.

Alright, for all those asking about the preface bumper, I looked at this guide to mine but didn't see the second page...so I gloved up and just figured I'd wing it.
The bolts for the rear bumper are actually located within the wheel well. There are is one 9mm bolt that screws into the bumper bracket (clip portion) itself closer to the back outside of the wheel well, and a 10mm plastic bolt-like thing that screws onto a support screw further into the wheel well. There is a third push in clip that is at the bottom of the fender guard, you can take that out if you want, but if you remove the previous two, the fender guard will just dangle there. At this point, you should have access to the inside of the bumper, and it should slide right off. I went a step further and replaced my brackets (15 dollars for both at my dealership), because the clip had broken when some a-hole backed into my car at work. The brackets are held in place by 2 10mm nut/washer combo thing, and will probably be rusted to hell, so look into picking a few washers and 10mm nuts from your local hardware store to replace em. Hope this helps, if you guys need, I'll take some pics of the interior wheel well, didn't do it today because I didn't want to get my phone dirty ![]() -KJB |
