No. When these go, they will give you an O2 sensor fault that will not stay cleared. Your DME codes are in the "Shadow Memory". My experience is that these can be ignored.

Too many people freak out when they run the scan and get a few (or a bunch) of errors. Then they start buying and replacing parts. I've had my check engine light come on, and then go off again before I can get home to run a scan.

Use the scanner as a tool, not an advisor. If you get a code, and you notice no difference in the way your car drives, clear the code and see if it comes back. If something is really needing attention, you will probably notice a change in performance. Then the code will point you in the right direction.

Yes. I search and searched...

Does anyone know what these codes and what I need to check and replace.

DME -> Shadow-memory:
85/08 - Signal, CAN ASC 3
23/12 - Activation, relay, secondary-air pump
3E/12 - Activation, solenoid valve, secondary air
7E/12 - Activation, solenoid valve, tank-leak diagnosis pump
7F/02 - Activation, solenoid valve, suction-jet pump

Thanks in advance...

Just ordered one of these for about $34 canadian in anticipation for when I sell my merc for an E46.

Do I need any specific hardware to run this? Was thinking of buying a decently powered netbook (or Win7 Tablet) to be a dedicated BMW diagnostic computer.

If you want to buy a netbook and make it a BMW diagnostic computer, I'd say buy a used one with windows xp 32 bit.
This will not only support BMW scanner but also, INPA, DSS, Winfpk and all.

They are shadow codes used to track a car's history. Do not worry about them.

Does the same to me. The only solution is to unplug and replug the scanner multiple times before it begins reading it.

Is there any way to remove the speed governor? I'm not planning on doing it, but I just wondered if this software was capable of that.

I gave up. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and same errors, looks like the scanner is not plugged but it shows the orange light, pin 7 & 8 are soldered together. Like i said before scanner was working.

You will need to plug the usb with the scanner ( no plugged to the car ) your computer has to detected the usb/scanner and install the drivers )

Brilliant, thanks for the input.

Good ol' IBM thinkpad with an SSD swap = perfect utility laptop!
