While I don't believe the president is responsible for high or low gas prices, I do believe that the most powerful man on the planet can influence and create a climate that will effect gas prices (for better or for worse.)

That is a good point. Since oil is a commodity traded on futures, words can do as much good or damage as actions. Speculators may sometimes act based on what the President says, prices will react accordingly.

As stated previously, his actions (or non-actions aka pipeline), do effect the gas prices we see at the pump. Moratoriums, more regulation, etc. created by the POTUS and Govt all create more problems, time consumption, more salaries to pay, etc just to drill a well to get the US the energy it needs. /geologist post
