$650 for a key?

Hi Folks, just been advised by bmw australia that a new master key for my 2000 330ci convertible is US$650. Only available at BMW here in Australia. Can anyone suggest a better way? Thx. Rob

Do you have a key that has gone bad? If so look at my 'New Key for Old' link under my sig.

Peninsula BM in Mornington sell new keys for $520 I believe.

Get quotes from some automotive locksmiths. I got quoted $650 for 2 keys in Sydney. One master key and one backup. Another locksmith quoted around $400 for just one master key I think. Also there are blank keys on ebay and you can get them cut and coded. Someone walked off with my keys at the hardware store. Caught him on cctv taking them and signing for his credit card. Police called it "accidental theft" and wouldn't follow it up.

If your security chip is damaged then you can't just replace the battery. If it is just a battery issue then this guy will do it for $50 US plus an extra $10 US international shipping.

If you're half decent with soldering, check the battery replacement DIY on youtube.
