Sorry, but bolting M3 parts to a 3 series does not get you an M3, no matter what you would like to believe, there is much more to it than that, but this is not the point.

Try to read this part real slow so that you can understand why people are disapointed:

The problem with this thread (don't get me wrong the build is cool) is that everyone was under the impression the OP took a 2 wheel drive M3 and added all wheel drive to it. When in reality he started with an all wheel drive and is adding M3 parts.

Cool build and I bet it will be fast as fvck when it is done but....I, like many people have been following this thread waiting to see an M3 gutted and all wheel drive parts install.

As much as I do not like 4 door e46 cars, I will be following this build to see where it goes, but I think the title is mis-leading.

Besides - there are people who have turned their sedans into M3s. Its not as big a deal as you think. They simply pulled everything from an M3 (front, rear, suspension, brakes, stearing, gearbox, differential, engine (and what not) from an original M3 and bolted those parts onto a modified sedan chasis.

They have even manufactured their own chasis parts (fenders and so on) to give their sedan the same look and wheel clearance an M3 has. Original M3 bumpers, mirros, speedo. No one has a problem if these guys call their ride an M3 sedan...

Besides - I dont know about you guys but I wouldnt repaint my engine room if I was still working on everything. I would finish the job - THEN pull everything apart and paint it!

I asume you didnt really spend 50 grand on your engine. I asume that is what it would cost if I would have you build that engine. The way I understand it you do it all by yourself - for yourself It would be great if you could post more detailed pictures (AWD parts).

What is the diference between the E46 awd and rwd chassis? I bet both plataforms will need almost the same labour to make it possible.

Since this was trial project, why would you want to see a M3 plataform being destroyed when you have non-m3 cars a lot cheaper to mess with?

With all the knowledge that the OP gained in this car, he can make a M3 AWD if he want it.

So stop trying to be a ass and learn something with those that are willing to spent cash in trial projects. It is with this type of projects that keep the E46 market grow and push forward the E46 limits. Once the S54 is already capable of putting down big numbers, it is time to make it possible to show it on a dragstrip - sub 10

I didn't say I wanted to see an M3 being destroyed, the title of the thread suggest that an all wheel drive M3 was being created, and it isn't. That is the problem.

You are treating the OP like if he wanted to call a 320i an M3

His car will be far superior to an M3... yet it is a E46 with a S54 engine and M3 rear end. The same way that you can't call a M3 awd just because it won't have the M3 drivetrain and all the other M3 parts to fit the AWD system.

Will the name discredit the OP's project??? You need to move on and see what it is really important in this project. If you are such a picky guy in your life like you are being in this thread, then i feel sorry for you...

I was thinking it was an AWD e46 COUPE project, not sedan. None the less this is badass. This car would be awesome to have here in Alaska where there are lots of evos and wrx/sti's running around.

Once it is possible retrofit M3 parts into the sedan, i thought that both chassis was almost the same. With your statements, it seems that the sedan is more roomy to receive the front axles transmission and diff.

I would like to see instead, a E30 with your engine/transmission. In my mind the S54 engine doesn't suit good in the E9x body: old engine to newer body. Besides that, the E30 is a much lighter body and makes it easier to achieve your goals.

If this Project Works I will get a E92 coupe AWD and swap the E46 AWD into this E92 coupe. Plans are on the shelf waitig.

Man, all this bickering in the thread, all over misunderstandings.

No one is denying your build is awesome, just that when entering the thread expected to see an e46 M3 COUPE with custom AWD as the thread title suggests. I guess adding the word 'sedan' to the title would have cleared up confusion. Again, awesome project.

I'm really interested in how you will get the rear tires to fit on an E46 sedan chassis. Most people struggle to get 265s to sit square to the ground, so I'm assuming you will have some body work done?

I have an E46 Sedan which I'm looking to fit some larger tires on as well....

Exactly. This is why so many people thought this thread was groud breaking. I was expecting a 2 door M3 body with awd installed.

But as I mentioned several times in my previous posts- Cool project non the less, I am interested and checking in for progress.
