Just picked up a nice 00 323ci

Bought it out of fishers indiana,some kid hit a curb and bent the spindle and busted the wheel,Already bought everything to fix it for less that $500. Now need to figure out how to get the top motor working

The last owner told me it was a manual top,i found a top button that glows red when you push it,i also cant manage to get the top down.It wouldnt bother me to put it down manually but what is the process? Is it susposta be power and its broken? Any other info? Thanks

The procedure is in the owners manual. If you don't have one they can be downloaded. Sorry, don't know the link off hand - google it.
I think that year both manual and power tops were available. Not sure how to tell the difference - I think the manual tops have a big handle in the center near the windshield - I also think both manual and automatic tops have a button to push. The solid red light probably means that the top storage area in the truck is not in the proper position. Open the trunk - the storage area needs to be lowered before the top can be lowered. Then close the trunk - the trunk has to be closed for the top to open - that red light could indicate the car thinks the trunk is open. Again, refer to owners manual. I have often wondered if a power top could be converted to a manual top rather than going to the expense of fixing the power one.

ok,well the owner did say it was the only year of a manual top-and it does have a big handle in the center.I am aware of the little trunk panel-ive tried messing with it,maybe a contact is bad.Thanks for the info,i bought the car for my sister as she has always drove pos cars and she deserves a proper car.Needless to say she couldnt believe i gave it to her.The car has has all the coolant work done and is beautiful.Pics soon
