So tomorrow my son and I are going into San Francisco. He has never been to Alcatraz so we're going to take a ferry out and check it out.

As I was asking him what else he wanted to do while we were there, he said "I dunno...maybe go wander through some shops?"

So proud of that boy. Wingtip here we come.

He's still just a Cub Scout. Plus I think his survival skills would be limited to panhandling and calling Adult Protective Services on Alcatraz.

EDIT: plus, I view this as another opportunity to mold/warp him in my own image. He will know the difference between four-in-hand and half Windsor. I promise you that.

It's surprising to me that this does it for you, but you dislike colorful jacket lining.

Either way, I'm giving a lot of thought to either the black LWB or the color 8/brown saddle. I question if the saddle will wear well in cordovan though. It doesn't seem like a model that would look better with creases.

i have a thing for red. always have. and it's more subtle than the lining. my friend has a black leather jacket and the pockets are lined with red leather and i love that. similar idea.

i don't care for saddle shoes too much. if i had money to burn, maybe. as a novelty. and honestly, to a certain point, if my girlfriend hates something enough i just dont bother because to me its a fleeting interest/novelty and to her she loathes the design of it (works in fashion) and saddle shoes are the perfect example of that.

question:
i want to get a suit jacket taken in on the sides. is this a relatively difficult thing to do, or is it something that pretty much any tailor could do? there's a tailor near my office that's an old italian lady who speaks broken english. she's definitely not a high-end tailor, but i think she's probably at least somewhat competent. trying to figure out whether i need to go to some super-experienced tailor for this.

This is something most any tailor can do, so long as they're experienced in men's clothes. Check out their yelp page.

I'd probably be a bit skeptical if a tailor spoke perfect English.

My tailor speaks passable English but is a refugee from Afghanistan (from many years ago). He's a great guy and does a fantastic job.

So it turns out that I borked it on Alcatraz--I should have bought tickets a couple of weeks ago. So my son and I spent the day wandering shops, eating dim sum, riding the cable car, and taking pictures. It was a great day.

I went to Wingtip--it's a cool shop, but a little heavy on artisanal doo-dads. I don't want 300-dollar cufflinks made out of old adding machine parts. They did have Bills Khakis, but I'm happy with what I've got.

you're in new york. go to stanton tailor shop, 90 Stanton St. it's the best tailor in new york for the money. to take in a jacket they'll probably charge you around $30 and they do fantastic work and they'll do it in 24 hours if you ask. pablo is the homie for sure.
