howdy all, hopefully the original poster (or anyone else) can help me out with the pin outs for the aux and usb sockets. I'm comfortable doing the soldering, but I want to be sure I'm soldering the right terminals to the correct wires. My plan is to use 12V power from an existing source in the car (from seats or cigarette lighter for example) to the socket so I can have juice to run power to portable devices using the USB port, so it will be used purely for power purposes, no data. Eventually I will try to hook up the Aux in port to my radio.

Regarding the USB...i'm assuming the diagram below still applies, but where does each wire go in the round connector in the BMW port? I tried doing a general google for "round USB connector" but couldn't really find anything.

Regarding the audio wires, I see your note about the L, R and ground pins, but I'm just wondering which is Pin 1 in the actual socket?...in the horizontal unit that is pictured the actual connector is vertical, so is the topmost pin #1? In a vertical unit (which is what I would use), would it be safe to assume that the leftmost pin is #1?

Last, the piece with the capacitors, resistors, etc is just to lower the voltage from 12v down to the 5v needed by the usb correct? I'll be buying the necessary parts from the shack this weekend.

Hope you gentlemen can provide some assistance.

Use these products to simplify the splicing needed at the plug itself and move the surgery to just wires:

61129187009 USB and Aux wires
61119129360 USB Extension Cable
