why is the new m5 not a big deal?

I remember when the last version, e60 i believe, came out. It was a huge deal, all the forums/blogs were flooded with content.

Now the new one is over a year old and no one seems to care. Hardly any modded, hardly any pics/vids.

Someone aware me. Thanks.

Because it had a frickin V10 in it, only Supercars had engines like that.

Also a regular 550i F10 is really good already, M cars aren't special anymore, hell even the displacement is the same.

They wasted the v10 with the e60... if they put it in the f10 it would be perfection. The f10 m5 is retarded fast though.

I still prefer the e39's v8. They still use that motor in racecars today. One of the best. The induction sound of that engine is BMW's ///M cars used to scream when wide open. Not anymore

I daily drive mine. I never get tired of the V10. Most concur over at m5board.com

That said, I will admit the SMG transmission is quirky and can be bothersome. But I'm used to it. Manual transmission owners, however, enjoy theirs.

Fuel MPG is my chief complaint. haha.

OP,

Keep in mind the the new F10 M5 came out in Europe first and only recently, within this past year, was available in the US. That said, new owners are still in the honeymoon phase and enjoying the novelty of it. If you venture over to m5board and bimmerpost (m5 section) there are plenty of threads.

Since the car is new, it's probably safe to say owners are older and may or may not frequent online boards.

Finally, the new F10 M5 is a great car, but compared to its predecessor and competition from MB, Audi, etc, people have perceived it to be rather tame. The e60 M5 with its v10 engine set it apart from the regular 5 series line up. It was fast, powerful, and snarling. The new F10 M5, though improved in every possible way, lacks the raw feeling the e60 had.

Yes, thank you Mr Obvious. It doesn't bother me though and my Dinan diff helps mitigate it slightly.

Are you always so cynical?

I also realize that with the new F10 M5, this isn't an issue.

Yeah. That has been addressed though. If I recall correctly, it was a bad batch of pumps from the supplier.

There are other issues as well - such is the case with first and second year cars. Kinks need to be worked out.

I remember the new M5 getting fairly poor marks against the competition. I think it looks great, though.

If I had the money, I'd get it in a heartbeat, but an F30 is probably more in my future in the next couple of years (based on price point).
