Broken Dipstick

I have a 2001 330i with 160,000 miles. The lifters are starting to tick while I drive and Idle, I know horrible, so first I need to change my oil immediately...The problem, or other problem, is that the red plastic tip on my dipstick has broken off in the housing somewhere and I have no idea if it has made it to the oil pan or if it is still in the housing... I could not find DIY for removing the dipstick tube, or beyond that removing the oil pan if that is where the dipstick would lead to I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and could point me in the right direction.
On another weird note, before my dipstick broke off I could never get a reading on it. I would try getting readings after the engine had ran and sat for a little bit, before it was driven, and while it was running... Never could see a clear level on that dam red funky thing. I used paper towels to see where the oil was and it was bone dry most the time, even after I had the dealer change the oil. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks for helping this noobie.

To remove the dipstick tube, both intake boots have to be removed and then there is a 13mm bolt holding it to the frame of the car.

What SolidJake said. However if you're already that deep into the engine bay, you might as well replace the CCV while you're at it.

Thanks for the help/info.
I actually am taking my car in because of the ccv...I think. The car burns oil out the exhaust when i start every now and again, not every time that I start and only for a couple seconds. And it also burns A HUGE white cloud out the exhaust (I am pretty sure it is white I have tinted windows so it could possible have a blue tinge to it) if I accelerate hard. Every thing that I have found points to the oil separator with the ccv valve thingy.

I just replaced my dipstick as I noticed the bottom portion was cracking in multiple places. $17.
