The Android on the Dynavin isn't stable. I have to reboot and reinstall the ROM everyday because it crashes. Getting sick of reinstalling all my apps again and again.

In the next two weeks or so I'm purchasing the wince version.

you have something wrong..... every 3-6 months isnt uncommon, but everyday is indicative of either a corrupt app, bad ROM install, or some kind of issue that is NOT normal.

It's also a D90 unit. It's old Jeff. Trust me I love this unit just the android isn't stable. I wanna upgrade to the d99 anyways.

I'm running the factory ROM and it installs properly. It works for a day flawlessly then out of no where the dreaded white screen.

ahhhhhh.....old unit, white screen, makes sense now. It's a hardware failure of some kind.

Yepp!

I'll shoot you a pm at the end of the month to set up an order for a new unit.

Hi everyone,newbie to the forum

As this is the most comprehensive dynavin thread on the interwebs i need to ask about some issues i have.

1. clock on windows side sometimes resets itself, could this be to low voltage from alternator?
2. Updating the Android side, screen is flickering and takes forever to update.
3. Android suddenly died/didnt start.been like this for three months thats why i have tried updating it.

any ideas how to fix these issues except setting it on fire?

dealer here in norway isnt too happy speaking with me regarding this unit.(think they knew it would have problems)

btw its a D99 installed in a E39

Cheers
Geir

I've scanned the thread and I see mentions of previous iPhone hardware and OS verions working as a wireless hotspot... but has anyone managed to get their unit working with an iPhone 5 running iOS 6? I can connect very reliably to my home wireless network, but when using either the "official" hotspot on my phone, or MiWi 6 in infrastructure mode, I get a connection the first time probably only about a third of the time. Sometimes I get as far as "authenticating" and the connection hangs... other times I appear to get to the DHCP handshake and *that* hangs... still other times it seems as though the unit doesn't see my SSID being broadcast at all (even though I can connect find with another device). Sometimes turning wifi on the Dynavin off and on again works, other times it doesn't. Sometimes rebooting the system works, other times it doesn't. Problem occurs with WPA2, with WEP, and with an unsecured network; wireless channel is also seemingly irrelevant. I tried a couple different USB wifi dongles I have lying around to see if *that* would help, but the system didn't recognize any of them.

I put this unit in on Saturday and have spent almost every free moment trying to troubleshoot this. I can see no consistent pattern. Aside from this, I'm quite happy with the thing so far, but this particular issue is frustrating. At any rate... has anyone gotten this combination working?

I can get mine to work, albeit not 100% of the time. I believe the issue is with the implementation of hotspot on the iPhone. Things to try:
- hard reboot of the phone
- reset network settings on the phone
- make sure you have the hotspot service enabled by your cellular provider (if that is required)
- use a simple password
- make sure the password is typed correctly in the Dynavin (that screen allows double character input too easily)

As Jeff has recommended earlier, make sure you have your hotspot enabled before you start the car for the best chance of initial success. As for the iPhone, "enabling" means having the hotspot switched on in the phone, the hotspot screen active and the connection started within approx. 120 seconds of turning it on with the phone. After that, Apple has set the hotspot to be undiscoverable, and you would have to restart the hotspot again.

If it doesn't connect and you already had android started, do a hard reboot of the phone and turn off wifi on android. When the phone restarts, turn on the Hotspot, then turn on the android wifi. It should discover after that.

Also test other wifi connections, such as open hotspots to see if it is the Dynavin.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, yeah, I've gone through all that several times. A hard reboot is *usually* sufficient as a last resort, but not always. It definitely appears to be something with the iPhone's networking stack (and I was somewhat hopeful that MyWi would have reimplemented more of that than it seems it has -- it looks like it just bypasses some of the higher-level logic in iOS for hotspot use); I've no problem connecting to fixed installations either at home, or open wifi on the road.

Given how much time I've spent on this and the complete lack of reliability I've pretty much written off the mobile connectivity of this unit as useless to me at this point. I know I can get a way to get a connection if I'm willing to work at it hard enough, and would probably do that if I were going for an hours-long drive, but for day to day short trips there's no point at all. I'll try ensuing OS revisions to see if they help but I'm definitely not holding my breath. If it becomes a huge deal for me I might spring for a mobile 4G hotspot, but I don't drive enough to justify that right now.

I do this sort of thing for a living and this one has truly flummoxed me. It's still a nice unit overall, I just need to adapt what I had in mind as my intended usage and curtail some of the "cooler" things I was hoping to be able to do. And buy an offline GPS app.

6.0.2 had WiFi fixes, but that's the most recent version that dealt with that. The past several haven't even had the traditional, incredibly generic "stability and performance improvements". I'm on 6.1.2; I'm waiting to see if there's going to be a jailbreak for 6.1.3 (or if I just give up on MyWi -- running it to test with the Dynavin is the only reason I jailbroke).

Edit: I might try PDANet tonight, since they claim to dig their hooks a bit deeper than the "other tethering apps" do. Doubtful it will make any difference, but it's worth a shot.

Ok, I hadnt really got into which update did what.....I just remembered wifi being one of the big issues early on with the iphone 5 and I know was the primary purpose of at least one update.....I googled this in the meantime and found references to continued wifi issues dated in Feb.....although that could be some left over internet paranoia.

FWIW, my initial testing with PDANet is looking a bit more positive. I'd need to run with this for a few days to be certain but my initial impression from testing it sporadically throughout the night is that I get a connection to my phone a lot more reliably. I'll keep nudging it for a while and report back, in case it's useful to anyone else.
