Pointless threads

So, there's a sticky at the top of general telling you to search before you make threads. Someone makes a thread about something that has been covered in depth and flat out states that he's not going to search.

People tell him to search and those posts are scrubbed, but the thread is left open. Really?

Dude......get some icy hot and fix your butt hurt.

The fact that you got worked up enough to start your own thread about this is laughable.

Not worked up, just genuinely curious why Tim would let a thread like that stay open. One that blatantly states he's not willing to follow forum rules.

Is it not possible to just not respond to his question therefore forcing him to search.....Instead of making another thread....

I agree, Choxor. A lot of people see the forum as a service and demand immediate answers. Anything less and they whine/complain. It's a sense of entitlement. Some people are respectful about it, though and I'm more inclined to help those that show more initiative, i.e., searching on their own, stating they searched, asking their question in a well thought-out and clear manner.

In an ideal world everyone would search, but they don't. Also in an ideal world finding the answer to your question would be easy, but it isn't always. I would prefer everyone to search but if they don't oh well. If you don't want to help someone that doesn't want to search, then don't. That doesn't mean a new member can't ask a question even if it has already been asked and answered. We're not going to rule topics off limits and start closing threads just because they've already been answered. That would lead to a really boring forum. We're also not going to let grumpy member crap on new members threads, that leads to a crappy forum experience for everyone.

Don't like a thread, don't participate in it. I hardly see that threads existence ruining your forum experience, or anyone elses for that matter.

Happy Easter everyone,
Tim
