Looks fresh from the chop shop.. the car looks like it has done more than 200,000kms based on condition.

So either the owner is a total moron and actually believes that (unlikely as they are selling the car) or they are a total moron and think people will actually believe that totally un-plausible story. You should send the owner an options list for that car and ask where it specifies (3 tone trim, accurate cluster and vehicle unlocking).

Does unlocked mean you can use any type of fuel as oppose to just BP Ultimate?

This M3 is definitely converted for nuclear fuel rods.

Yeah me neither. Or from a seller that puts Nangkang SuperPooner tyres on their M3.

Mine too. 275/30/19? I think they are the cheapest that meet load ratings.. Old mate was probably a bit broke after spending 16k on a new subframe!

Car was sold for $21K to another local Hobartian who is in the process of rectifying the previous handy work. Seller genuinely had no idea whatsoever and was only forwarding on what he had been told by who he brought the car off. Poor bloke learnt a lesson the hard way.

Oh god no! Know the seller and been involved with it through work. Admittedly did try a really low ball offer before he sold it though lol would of liked a nice cheap M3 drivetrain and accessories. Poor bloke just got taken for a ride really. Didn't research or anything before buying it, just seen price compared to others and assumed it was a good deal. Looks even worse than the descriptions here in the flesh.

I find that somewhat difficult to believe. Not saying you're lying but I reckon the previous owner was having you on.

I just don't see how the cluster would come up in conversation unless specifically raised and to be raised the purchaser would need to spot that it's different to the standard one. If your attention to detail is that close then you know enough about E46's (or cars in general for that matter) to know that there's no such thing as a special speedometer that is 'more accurate' or an 'unlocked' version...

I'd say the previous owner wasn't aware at time of purchase, maybe enquired post purchase and was told the BS or made it up himself when it was questioned during his sale.

Either way it's good to hear it was sold cheap to someone who knows what they're in for and will spend time and money getting it back to it's former glory.

Sucks for the previous owner as he probably made a bit of a loss (although IIRC it was up for 26k previously). It just goes to show the importance of doing research, especially when buying a 10 year old M3!

I'd say the "Being told BS post purchase" scenario would be the most likely scenario. He pretty much threw his hands up and said "I've been ripped off, time for it to go" On another note was serviced by a dealer 3 times who never picked up on the dot or other differences either. Was only picked up by a pre-purchase check by a indy workshop.
