Long time no see guys. Engine rebuild time

So looks like I'll be buying another 3.0L M54 engine but this time I'm going to bore it out to 3.2L ( at least that's the plan ) I'm also going to put in metal head gasket and low compression pistons so I'm able to put a 10-12psi pulley on my supercharger.

Now my question is for you guys is. What pistons/rebuild kits do you all recommend?. I've seen quite a few but I don't know truly which ones are proven to last or be good for an application like this. I also would like some recommendations of some good cams and rods/bearings the whole shabang.

I forgot to mention I will be doing all the work myself with the help of E46Mango on the forums most likely and my other friend who's not on any forums. It'll be a long and interesting project.

Personally I'd find something better than the aluminum block if you're going to boost.

Ouch did the motor give out ?

It's been awhile since you upgraded to a custom intercooler on your vf kit.

S54 would be sweet too

Nope engine didn't give out yet. But it may have a head gasket leak so I don't really feel like going through all of that without doing a serious rebuild. Going to do a combustion leak test to see if there's any stuff in the coolant first this week.

I guess your motor been PING alot to have a gasket let go or over-heated.

CP piston, Eagle Rods, Vaio Oil Pump, ATI Damper, Calico Coated Main and Rod Bearings, MLS Headgasket, Wurth timeserts, and Raceware Hardware. You will have about 3-3.5k on the bottom end. Now, lets talk about the top end. Vac Titanium Valve Seats, Springs and 1+mm intake and exhaust valves, and port and polish job. That will be about 5-6k on the top end. There is more but I double u wanna go that crazy do u? Also 3.2L lol

Boring the M54 to 87mm(3197cc) isn't an option iirc

There's a 3.2L crank but it's $$$

I'm going through the same decision right now. Got a spare M54B25 and thinking about bulding it for lower compression with b30 crank.
I don't think I'm gonna do it. It's just too much money.
At 330whp and good low end (twinscrew 8PSI) I don't have to worry about the rest of the drivetrain too much.
If I put $4k into the bottom end I would still need:
tune - 0-$1000, depending on ESS
clutch - $1000
FI cam - $1400
rear axle shafts - this would likely require rear trailing arms, brakes
new rear tires every two months

And with all that said. I'll probably just put another 3.0L and just put new piston rings on and and a metal head gasket. Everything else is far to expensive sounding. I thought it might be like $1500-2000 if I did everything myself... f u expensive parts. Regardless I shall take tons of pictures as usual when I do a job like this and post them up for you guys. But I'm just not entirely sure when I'll get started on the project. But when I do start I will make a new thread for sure.

What about an LS7 conversion? If you want power.. It would be more time consuming, but one hell of a ride afterwards.

If there is an option, how about having the 3.0 bored, then sleeved with steel sleeves, then you could have those bored if needed. (kinda old school)

got me thinking now.... But at the moment it looks like I'll just be rebuilding another 3.0 and just putting metal head gasket in and new piston rings.

If I had to do another engine, I would seriously look at the swap. Just something to think about.
I knew an old man once that had a 55chevy belair, he had the block bored then sleeved it with steel and then bored the steel sleeves. I'm sure ot would cost a bit, but it can be done.

I'd also probably put 325 emblems on it too...just a little sleeper.
