Sebby, I was surprised they could ship to California, there are CMP forums where people have asked about illinois, looks like they just need a copy of your FOID:

As long as you clean the barrel properly i doubt you will ever wear either out. The rebuilt guns will generally shoot better but its still a historical vs shooter standpoint. I generally dont like the new wood that they sell, its thicker than WWII (and even korean war replacement) stocks in areas like the grip, unless they have changed them with in the last few years. Back when I was really in to them that was a big gripe, many people sanded and reshaped them to make them more proper.

If you want the best of both worlds find a nice non abused WWII stock and swap it in, they feel way better in the hand IMHO.

well I do have a FOID card and according to that forum it does fulfill a requirement. I will just fill a form out send it in and see what happens. Feel likr that would be the best/easiest way for me to get a M1 that I feel comfotable buying.

Sebby, There is one other option since you are 4 hours away from thier north store in port clinton ohio, a day trip over there would allow you to check out some of the rifles, I heard the shelves are pretty bare right now.
