I'm running the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, not cheap, but fantastic tires, and I don't find them to be loud. They've survived 2 track weekends and about 5k miles and still appear to have at least half their tread left.

I had Potenza Pole Position 960s on my Volvo 850, and they were fantastic. Great grip, wet or dry. THey have been replaced by the 970s, but you can still find 960s at a good price. If you check Tirerack, they are highly favored.

I will go with an all-season - probably Michelin or Bridgestone - when it time to buy new tires.

Funny, now I see I have
Michelin Pilot Sport 225/40-18 front which seem to make a noise like bad wheel bearings from 10-35 mph.
Potenza RE760 Sport 255/35-18 rear which dont seem to make any noise.

I'm not sure I understand what you are getting at. The hankooks aren't silent, no tire is. I can still hear them but they are much quieter than my Michelins.

@Alpine: Yokohamas are really nice tires, also quiet and very grippy. I just find that they have too short of a life for their price...my friend was only getting around ~10k miles on them on his E36.

That's the primary reason I just bought a set :-) (not really) Price was good for the performance I've experienced so far. As long as I don't scrub the tread off too quickly, I'm totally happy.

I have only 100 miles on them and am in love with them. My only regret is that I replaced a/s tires and now will have to drive the ford explorer for winter trips instead of the e46.

My Ride: 2002 330I
Anyone out there have the "Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position"? I have 2002 330I with the style 73 rims. Currently running 205/50/17 but looking to go wider. It is my understanding that I can run 225/45/17 without any mods or problems. Can anyone vouch for that? Looking to get 4 tires for around $800 open to any suggestions. Thanks!
