Make sure you discuss the whole story and don't feed these people with lies.
The vanos was removed and taken out in pieces.
BMW makes a special tool to reassemble the vanos.
This guy, bought the vanos "used" off my "running" car I told him up front vanos worked great on my car and that he shouldnt have any "working" issues.
There fore if he had a vanos tool or taken it to a mechanic that had the tool "I know RACEWERKS" locally has the tool. And is a BMW cert shop. Could have done this no problem.
The car was taken to Atlantic auto works and he was told the vanos need to be sent in for rebuilt. . . "Because they do not have the specific tool to fix the vanos.
NOT MY FAULT AND NOT MY PROBLEM.
YOU bought a used unit and what we discussed YESTERDAY the stipulations when you buy something used and try and have a shop INSTALL used parts.
Leave it at that and move on. I'm sorry you don't have the proper tools. Not my problem. I sold you exactly what I sold you. A USED working vanos. Don't post on here negatively because you've had a bad shop experience. You took it upon your self to spend $1200+ dollars to doc vanos. Or atleast that is what you told me it is costing you.... Why anyone would spend 1200 over buying another used part and selling the one I sold you is beyond anyone's right mind.

You lie so much, you dont even know what the truth is. Your car was not running. You sold me a vanos unit that you completely took apart piece by piece. For what reason, I still dont know. You are a claimed mechanic but you, in this case did not know how to take the vanos unit off. You then tell me that the vanos unit is ready to go, but it might need a new seal. You also told me the seal woudl be a relatively cheap item. I take the unit to Atlantic and they ask me why did you take the unit apart. I let them know that the guy who sold it to me took it apart. Liar here, neglects to tell me that there is a special alignment tool needed to put this thing back together and the seals are like 300.00. Now people, who do you know or what shop do you know that will put a vanos together for free, regardless if they have the special alignment tool or not. When I spoke to this guy after I found out what I needed, he tells me that BMW has the tool. Did not even mention Racewerks. SO that tells me he knew the item was not plug and play. Just look at his response: "NOT MY FAULT AND NOT MY PROBLEM". That should be enought for any reasonable person to stay away. I have chalked it up as a lesson learned. Im just giving fellow boarders fair warning. Deal with him at your own risk.
