is this guy serious? do your research of our laws buddy, if we could import these cars like you suggest, then everyone would, BUT WE CAN'T because of our laws.

I'd rather pay triple the price that you would, for a car here in Aus, knowing that I also get a better standard of living and better wages.

Now please, go back to the US section and stop acting like you know more about our country than we do.

And I never crack it on the forums....until now.

putting all this aside, prices of cars here reflect the minimum wage. our minimum wage here is double whats in the states. plus regulations to import a car that already exists in Aus as ating has mentioned earlier, i have to live 1 year overseas to be able to bring it back here. best option is from UK.

I have looked at this avenue before hand.
your completely right how ever UK vehicle are the less than they are in the US and ARE RHD. They are also the point of origin for the vehicles production. So it is still a proable venue for you to look in to is all I'm saying. I realize you all get paid more than we do which is why your prices reflect such, but if you can work around it and save your self some money why not?

This post makes my brain hurt just trying to read it.

As said before, do you think you're the first person to think of doing this? It's not feasible with our laws, nor cost effective. GTFO.

Propertstyle, while your idea is good in theory, in practice it doesn't work mainly because unless you are an expat returning to domicile in Australia the rules do not allow a car such as an M3 to be privately imported unless it will be for track or race use only i.e. it cannot be road registered. The only loopholes are that either the car was not sold in volume here or it is of a particular age (30 or 40 years +?).

You're in Augusta, right? One of our guys was there recently and is bringing home a lovely green jacket that none of your boys managed to get. Top stuff, Adam Scott

Did I say fees / taxes? No, I said laws... It's extremely difficult to get an imported vehicle complied here. I've also heard that to import a vehicle you have to have owned it and registered it at your address overseas for at least 12 months.

Like everyone else has said, if it were that easy and cheap we would all be rolling around in imported E92's but it isn't so we aren't. You're never going to win this argument so give up...

Be prepared to spend 1200 at least or 3600 in your case on SUBFRAME plates being installed, the E46 2001-2003 models were built with the sub frame bolting only in to a thin piece of sheet metal, over time unless the rear bushings have been replaced the constant jerking back and forth from driving will cause the sub frame to rip out of the bottom of the trunk. When you go to look at one check the strut towers for cracks, the trunk areas for cracks and near the gas tank under neath for cracks.

As well as look in to vanos bolts, as they are known to back out over time causing the bolt to completely strip out and I think from there you can assume lots of engine damage.

If you get an SMG model be prepared if it should fail to shell out 2500 or 8000 in some cases for the pump to be replaced, as well as getting soft ware updated from BMW or a local tuner who has it. There is a resistor you can get added in to help reduce the chance of the car going in to limp mode from the transtemp senor saying the fluid is to hot when in fact the sensor is being heated up by the sheer fact it's placed so close to the engine that is give a false reading.

Why are people attacking the American guy? They don't give us that sort of reception on the open forum (well, they do me, but I earned it.)

No they haven't one person mentions the housing for the SMG tranny if it was converted that was it another mention valve adjustment the rest of the comments are about anther vehicle some one offered for sale and then the comment back and forth regarding impoting a vehicle. the OP then Asked again comment 28 "just need owners advise/experiance. that's all I require" . You need to reread the first 10 comments.
