I've never had to take that part off but I would start by removing the side panel to make it easier. Look for speaker DIYs to see how to do it.

You have to remove the rear panel, which is easy enough and the part you want is held in by 2 screws, i removed mine last month when i 2 toned my trim
Here's a link that may help

These parts have disappeared on my vert? Put the roof down and they were there as always no gap, next time the weather was good I had the roof down, happy as Larry, and then noticed they had gone? WTF?! have they come loose and fallen somewhere?

Those little covers slide back and forth as the top goes up and down. There is a spring that attaches from the little cover over to a tab on the metal top frame. Your spring probably broe or popped off, so the little cover doesn't get pulled over to fill in the gap. If you reach doen into the gap the little covers are suppose to cover you can feel the covers and slide them up.

Great diagram! http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E4...im_panel_rear/

Take of the rear seat, then the arm rests, then the side panel.
